Netherton Neighbourhood Fun Fest Stakeholder Engagement Case Study

One Vision Housing

27 July 2024

Netherton, Sefton

Over 300 local residents were in attendance on the day.

Project information

The Indices of Deprivation (2019) report depicts Netherton as an area facing socio-economic challenges within the Sefton area. Compared to other parts of the country, Sefton itself has become more deprived in recent years, and Netherton falls within a group of areas experiencing a higher level of deprivation than the Sefton average.

One Vision Housing (OVH) have a substantial number of properties in the Netherton area, and to help improve the health and wellbeing of local residents, OVH partnered with community organisation, the Netherton Park Neighbourhood Centre, to host a free family fun day.

During the event residents enjoyed free entertainment, inflatable slides, toddler castles, an obstacle course, market stalls, discounted food, complimentary massage therapies, and a football shootout with local LGBTQ+ football team, Inclusion Plus FC.

Outcomes

This event proved to be a large success by promoting the health and wellbeing of local residents with over £1.14m generated in social value according to the HACT social value calculator. The event offered various family friendly activities, promoting social interaction along with physical and wellbeing activities.

The event provided a safe and inclusive environment, fostering a sense of community and belonging among residents. By engaging with physical activities and indulging in the complimentary massage therapies offered by Sefton OPERA, residents were able to reduce stress and improve their moods. Additionally, with discounted food on offer, residents were able to enjoy a budget friendly meal improving their overall wellbeing.

We ensured that equality, diversity and inclusion were at the heart of our activities by hosting a football shootout in collaboration with LGBTQ+ team Inclusion Plus FC. This initiative not only provided a platform for LGBTQ+ individuals to showcase their talents and connect with others in their community but also served as a powerful reminder of the importance of inclusivity and respect for all. By celebrating diversity and promoting a sense of belonging for everyone, this event further enriched the lives of local residents and created a stronger, more vibrant community.

Netherton Park Neighbourhood Centre case study

Family X are known to the centre through their social protection work. They have previously been on child protection and two of the children have a disability and are neuro diverse.

The event engaged the family as the centre ensured access to all activities supported by OVH. The family spoke to the family team lead after the event and commented on the impact of the day. The mother of the family told the Centre Manager:

This was a brilliant event. Everything was available for every one of my kids. We didn’t spend a penny and my kids enjoyed every activity.

In addition, she spoke at length to the Centre Manager after the event and confirmed her commitment to deepen engagement with the centre's services in areas where they know she needs additional support. The mother is a member of their food hub and has subsequently attended cookery and wellness programmes.

Marie Savin, Netherton Park Neighbourhood Centre Manager, said:

Thank you so much to One Vision Housing for helping to put on this wonderful family event. Everyone said how much fun they had and what an improvement it has made to their summer.

Sarah, Netherton Park Neighbourhood volunteer and OVH customer, said:

There were lots things to do for everyone and it was great to see so many people from the community having fun together. The entertainment was great and everyone enjoyed the day.
