ECU is proud to announce the future construction of the Center of Medical Education Building Spring 2025. The Simulation Program will be relocating to this new building and almost tripling in size!
The Brody School of Medicine welcomes Jennifer Parker-Cote, MD, as the incoming Assistant Dean for Clinical Simulation beginning January 2025. Dr. Parker-Cote is an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine.
The Simbionix Ultrasound Virtual Simulator now has Advanced Echocardiography and Transesophageal (TEE) modules. If you are interested, please contact us to schedule a time for orientation to the simulator.

Simulation Stars
Special thanks to Audrey Eaves and the Department of Physicians Assistant Studies faculty in their mission to strengthen their students' procedural skills here at the simulation center.
Jeanette Spence, DNP, MSN, RN, of Pitt Community College Nursing continues to help coordinate and lead interprofessional scenarios with internal medicine residents and PCC nursing.
Special thanks to Ron Bolen, MSN, RN, CCRN, CEN, who assisted in teaching interprofessional skills with medical and nursing students during the Physicians Doctoring Rotations.

Program Activity
Emergency Medicine faculty participated in Butterfly Compass Software Training led by Dr. Kimberly Fender. This software will allow ultrasound POCUS exams to be directly saved into the EHR.
ECU College of Nursing students attended the BSOM M2 Doctoring PDR session this semester. During this interprofessional session, students practiced maintaining the sterile field while preparing for acute procedures.
EastCare continues to train their personnel using the simulation center to reinforce their skills as critical care transport providers across Eastern North Carolina.
BSOM M2 students, Physical Therapy (PT) Students, and Department of Addictions and Rehabilitation Studies (DARS) took part in an interprofessional clinical applications scenario. This was the first time PT and DARS students participated in BSOM simulation programs. Student and faculty feedback was very positive!
ECU Health Internal Medicine-Pediatrics residents and Family Medicine residents have started using the virtual ultrasound simulator to practice POCUS exams.
Weekly interprofessional case scenarios continue with ECU Internal Medicine Residents, Pitt Community College Nursing, and ECU College of Nursing, practiced responding to a code as a team.

Expanding the Field
Bill Vasios, Simulation Fellow, worked with the College of Nursing, College of Allied Health Sciences, and Department of Physician Assistant Studies to plan an interprofessional simulation. He developed an observational feedback tool for learners to debrief teamwork and communication skills.
The BSOM Simulation Center hosted the North Carolina State Highway Patrol for a day of training where scenarios recreated emergency situations officers may encounter in the field.
Ashley Jensen, RN, participated in EM Skills Conference and M2 Clinical Applications as part of her Doctorate of Nurse Practitioner program. She is measuring how the presence of an interprofessional (nurse) facilitator impacts medical student and resident education during simulation training.
The Mobile Healthcare Simulation Unit traveled to ECU Health North in Roanoke Rapids, NC, for pediatric trauma scenarios.
