Weekly Newsletter 6th September 2024

Welcome to QRA Weekly!

Welcome to the first newsletter of the year!

It’s only been two days with the children in school, but it's been lovely to have them back. I'd like to say a big thank you to the children for the warm welcome they have given me this week. I have already seen their brilliant behaviour and hard work in the classroom in action. Staff are delighted with the first couple of days we've had with the children, so a big well done to all.

I'd also like to say thank you to our lovely staff team for their hard work this week. We started off the week with three training days on Reading, Phonics, Maths and the all important issue of Safeguarding. These training days can be heavy-going, but staff were brilliant as always. We spent a great afternoon on Tuesday discussing the strengths of our lovely school and what we want to achieve together over the coming year. I spoke with them about the Learning and Beyond vision for our school, and our Be Kind, Aim High, Discover initiative. As a staff team, we're committed to providing the best for all of our children, and I have full faith that our team will take everything they've learned and use it to great effect.

We will be issuing this newsletter on a weekly basis to update you on everything QRA, so please keep your eyes peeled.

Have a great weekend and see you on Monday!

School Vision & Values

This week, we have launched an updated vision for Queens Road Academy:

Keeping our Learning and Beyond mission is important, and we have added to this by reminding children of what this means on a day-to-day basis. We want all in our school - adults and children - to be kind, aim high, and discover.

This is something we will be talking to the children about regularly, and will become a key part of what it means to be a member of our fantastic community!

Read Write Inc Phonics

I'm delighted to tell you that from this year, we will be rolling out Read Write Inc phonics at Queens Road Academy.

Without fluent and confident reading, it is impossible to access learning at a good level across the curriculum. Read Write Inc is a proven and effective method of teaching phonics to young children and I can't wait to see the progress children make with their reading. Thank you to Miss Cuthbert for leading this important area and for being a brilliant phonics ambassador for the school!

In due course, we will be providing further information to you about Read Write Inc and how you might be able to support your children at home.

Attendance Changes

As you may be aware, there have been a few important changes regarding the national processes around attendance in schools

A polite reminder that we have a no jewellery policy in school, as introduced last year. This is to ensure safety during active times within the school day.
