Our talented Year 5 and Year 6 pupils delighted and impressed us with their performances in the brilliant whole school production of Matilda this week. Well done everyone- we are so proud of you! Thank you to all our parents who joined us for Curriculum Information Evenings this week. We hope you found the information about next year's learning useful!
What happened in School this week?
Science Week culminated with the grand finale of the boat race!
During the morning, each team in their year group raced across the paddling pool using hand held fans to see which boat stayed afloat and made it to the other side. After a busy morning, each year group had a winning team. The afternoon grand final saw the overall winners crowned. The boat made by Bevis and Victor in Year 3 made it across the water the fastest and to resounding cheers and much excitement they celebrated with their class. Mrs Crotty also gave a special award to Marcella and Emilia in Year 6 for the best looking boat!
Forest Explorers
This week, we’ve been diving into the magical world beneath the waves as we learnt all about sea animals. As a class, we created a giant ocean scene, carefully cutting out and sticking on a wonderful variety of sea creatures. We even pretended to swim through our undersea world! Alongside our creative fun, we’ve been busy counting sea animals, singing cheerful under-the-sea songs, exploring the forest, and enjoying a sweet treat by making rice crispy cakes. What a fantastic week of learning and adventure!
Reception
As part of our ‘Me and My Wonderful World’ topic the children in Reception have been learning about minibeasts. They have been on a minibeast hunt around the school grounds and have been fascinated by the minibeasts they have found and where they live! We have enjoyed stories about minibeasts and the children have enjoyed finding out facts about minibeasts too. The children have begun making their own minibeast books, full of facts about their favourite minibeasts. We are looking forward to sharing them with our buddies.
Year 1
Year 1 have had lots of fun with money this week! They have been learning the value of different coins and notes, discovering that the biggest coins are not necessarily worth the most money. At the end of the week they went shopping, taking it in turns to choose items to buy, before selecting the right coins to pay. As a challenge, we tried to find two ways of making the same totals! We have also enjoyed describing different materials, as well as practising for sports day.
Year 2
This week Year 2 have enjoyed spending time with their buddies outside in the sunshine, playing games and reading together. We have also looked at telling the time in maths, finishing our book the Owl and the Pussycat in English and creating coding sequences on Scratch Jr in computing.
Year 3
Year 3 have been enjoying designing a pneumatic toy as part of DT. They sketched some designs, then developed their ideas to ensure they were functional and appealing. To make their pneumatic toy they used a balloon, an opening box and tubing. As they blew the balloon up the lid of the box raised. It was fun decorating and testing the toys and they were very successful.
Year 4
This week Year 4 have consolidated their knowledge of angles. They enjoyed searching the school looking for obtuse, acute and right angle triangles. Once identified, they used the iPad to photograph the angles. Back in the classroom, the girls created a PicCollage showing the angle of each object. It was a fun way to remember angle facts.
Year 5
Year Five children are far from negative, despite extending their understanding of negative numbers this week. They commented on how visible these numbers are in our everyday worlds as they found the difference between positive and negative numbers and recorded sequences. Monday was extraordinary as the children attended a Modern Foreign Languages event in our Senior School; a stimulating morning of learning, blending languages and much loved subjects. Half of our class have also been incredibly busy, taking part in three evening performances of Matilda after many months of dedicated preparation. They were a tremendous presence throughout the production, making us all very proud.
Year 6
It’s been a lively and illuminating week for Year 6! In science, pupils explored how light travels in straight lines and reflects off different surfaces through hands-on experiments with mirrors and torches. Meanwhile, in English, the classroom transformed into a Shakespearean stage as pupils enthusiastically acted out the opening fight scene from Romeo and Juliet, bringing the Bard’s words to life with dramatic flair. To top it all off, our Tunbridge Wells Junior Enterprise winning team celebrated their success with a well-deserved meal at Sankey’s – a brilliant reward for their hard work and creativity!
Tunbridge Wells Junior Enterprise
The winning Tunbridge Wells Junior Enterprise team enjoyed their prize of a meal to Sankey's. Matthew Sankey the owner, hosted and joined the girls for dinner, as well as giving them a fascinating tour of the kitchen and of the cellars. A wonderful time was had by all, alongside some delicious food.
A little bit of magic and a whole lot of mischief!
Year 5 and 6 truly shone in the recent production of Matilda The Musical JR.—a show filled with a little bit of magic and a whole lot of mischief! With confidence, energy and brilliant stage presence, our young performers helped bring this wonderful tale of Roald Dahl’s to life.
You captivated the audiences with your talent and enthusiasm. We are so proud of you! Miss Bruce
We’re off to Disneyland!
A huge congratulations to Sasha and Charlotte, who have successfully auditioned with their dance school to perform at Disneyland Paris this August!
