Help For families

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP): The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) issues monthly benefits that can be used to purchase food at authorized retail food stores. SNAP benefits help low-income working people, senior citizens, the disabled and others feed their families.

Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP): The Low-Income HEAP is a federally funded program that assists eligible households in meeting their home energy needs.

Temporary Assistance (TA): Temporary Assistance, also known as Public Assistance (PA), is temporary help for needy adults, and children. If you are unable to work, can't find a job, or your job does not pay enough, TA may be able to help you pay for your expenses.

Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP): The New York State Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) will provide significant economic relief to help low and moderate-income households at risk of experiencing homelessness or housing instability by providing rental arrears, temporary rental assistance and utility arrears assistance.

Child Support Services: Child Support Services provides custodial parents with assistance in obtaining financial support and medical insurance coverage for their children by locating parents, establishing parentage, establishing support orders, and collecting and distributing child support payments.

Summer EBT: Summer EBT provides low-income families with food benefits to help cover the cost of groceries when school is out of session. Most eligible children will receive Summer EBT food benefits automatically; however, some families may need to apply.

Housing and Support Services: OTDA administers an array of programs to address homelessness in New York State. These range from programs to prevent homelessness to the actual construction of housing for homeless persons.

Shelter Oversight and Compliance: OTDA oversees publicly funded shelters for families and adults experiencing homelessness across the state.

Refugee Services: OTDA's Refugee Services is the single state entity responsible for the implementation of services to refugees.

New York State Supplement Program (SSP): SSP provides state-funded financial assistance to aged, blind and disabled individuals and is part of the monthly benefit paid to most Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients.

Ride for half price (Fair Fares NYC): Save 50% on public transportation including subway fares, eligible bus fares, and Access-A-Ride paratransit trips.
