On Saturday, a group of the Mammoth throwers opened up the Outdoor season at the Swanson Invitational. With temperatures in the 30s and rain falling the whole day, the Mammoths competed well in challenging weather conditions!

Hammer Throw
The first event of the day for the Mammoths was the Hammer Throw, which Charlie Spurrell won with a throw of 46.26 meters (151' 9")! Hugh Lemmon-Kishi placed second with a huge personal best throw of 43.04 meters (141' 2")! David Brown helped the Mammoths complete the first through third sweep, placing third in the event with a throw of 40.56 meters (133' 1")! Alex MacDonald competed in the event for the first time and placed fourteenth with a throw of 30.62 meters (100' 5")!
Bethany Martin placed second in the Women's Hammer Throw with a throw of 38.06 meters (124' 10")! Emma Ramsingh competed in the event for the first time, placing eighth with a throw of 29.63 meters (97' 2")! Isabella Niemi also competed in the event for the first time, placing thirteenth with a throw of 26.26 meters (86' 2")!

Shot Put
The Shot Put was contested at the same time as the Hammer Throw, but was contested indoors. In the Women's Shot Put, Emma Ramsingh placed sixth with a throw of 10.55 meters (34' 7.5"), Bethany Martin placed eleventh with a throw of 9.88 meters (32' 5") and Isabella Niemi placed fourteenth with a throw of 9.68 meters (31' 9.25")!
In the Men's Shot Put, David Brown placed second with a throw of 13.90 meters (45' 7.25"), his best throw of 2024! Jacob Shine placed sixth with a throw of 12.51 meters (41' 0.5") and Hugh Lemmon-Kishi placed eighth with a throw of 12.25 meters (40' 2.25")!

Javelin
The Mammoths flexed their depth in the Javelin while competing in difficult conditions with nearly 1 inch of water on the runway. Starting with the Women's Javelin, Carolina Andrade won with a throw of 32.12 meters (105' 4") and Morgan Rome placed second with a throw of 32.05 meters (105' 2")!
In the Men's Javelin, Alex Robin placed third with a throw of 42.47 meters (139' 4")! Kevin Ryu placed fourth with a throw of 39.63 meters (130' 0") and Santi Benbow placed fifth with a throw of 39.40 meters (129' 3")!

Discus
Jacob Shine won the Discus with a throw of 37.28 meters (122' 4")! Alex MacDonald made it an Amherst sweep, placing second in the event with a throw of 35.56 meters (116' 8")!
Unfortunately, the Women's Discus was cancelled because of the weather conditions. We know that our Women's Discus throwers are ready to compete!
We are so proud of our Mammoths for competing hard and performing well on a day when the weather did not cooperate!
UP NEXT for the Mammoths is the Black & Gold Invitational on Friday, March 29th and Saturday, March 30th at Bryant University in Smithfield, Rhode Island. On Friday, the Shot Put, Javelin and 10,000 Meters will be contested. On Saturday, all other track and field events will be contested.
