Heritage Walk in Icherisheher AZERBAIJAN URBAN CAMPAIGN - WEBSTORY

On 14 December, the Icherisheher State Historical-Architectural Reserve Administration hosted a Heritage Walk in Icherisheher at the Photography Centre, offering participants a unique journey through the heart of Baku’s historic core. The visit was led by Rahib Azeri, a well-known cultural worker and TV presenter, who guided participants through 14 key historical monuments within Icherisheher. The walk highlighted the district’s distinctive architectural features, the stories behind ancient properties, and the key stages in the formation of this UNESCO-listed urban landscape. The event attracted 19 participants on site, with over 440 registrations, reflecting strong public interest in cultural heritage and urban history. Organized as part of the Azerbaijan Urban Campaign 2026, the Heritage Walk contributed to national outreach and public engagement activities in the lead-up to WUF13. It showcased how cultural heritage, historic urban landscapes, and people-centred storytelling are integral to sustainable urban development and inclusive city-making. Highlights from the walk were shared through an Instagram video on Icherisheher’s official account, capturing moments from the guided tour and the richness of the historic environment. The video was subsequently re-posted by UN-Habitat, amplifying the campaign’s message and reinforcing Icherisheher’s role as a living heritage site within Azerbaijan’s urban narrative. The Heritage Walk demonstrated how the Azerbaijan Urban Campaign is connecting local heritage initiatives with global urban agendas, translating the values of WUF13 into tangible, community-focused experiences.
