The University of Rochester: Meliora - "Ever Better"
Over 170 Years of Excellence
Rochester students, faculty and staff strive daily to bolster a rich history and tradition through their own ingenuity, creativity and discovery. In the Humanities, our students and faculty are studying the masters while creating their own art, music and prose. Social Sciences like our political science, economics and psychology departments have earned national recognition for teaching and research. The Natural Sciences at Rochester such as engineering, optics, computer science, bio-medicine and physics are all on the cutting edge in terms of creating knowledge and advancing their respective fields.
Traditional Learning Co-exists with Innovative Research
Our curriculum is student focused and adheres to the philosophy that everyone does their best work when they follow their own interests. We do not have core requirements at the U of R. Instead, from freshman year onward, students take the classes that interest them. Students have the freedom to seek out coursework that they are passionate about and faculty whom they wish to learn from and collaborate with on research, writing and special projects. Students and faculty alike thrive in our unique educational setting.
Student-focused Coaching
Our staff supports the players in their personal, academic and athletic goals and we challenge them to achieve their full potential in each area. We design training programs for speed, strength, agility, fitness and ball work, and our players develop as athletes during their time here. We also help our players grow in terms of their understanding of themselves and the world around them. Sports psychology, leadership training, service and mentorship programs, and an international tour are all vital components of a four-year career at Rochester.
2024 Season
2024 Recap
In Coach Cross’s first year at the helm, the Rochester men’s soccer team finished the 2024 season with a 9-4-4 record and for the second year in a row, they finished 3rd in the University Athletic Association. The season was full of some amazing performances and lasting memories which included not dropping a match on our home turf, Fauver Stadium. The boys started UAA play with a gritty 0-0 draw against a stellar University of Chicago squad. Another example was a huge come from behind win against Case Western Reserve where they were down 2-0 at half and clawed back to win 3-2, scoring in the final 2 minutes to take the lead. In the final regular season game, the boys were hoping an away win against UAA top seed Emory would propel them to post season. Rochester was up 1-0 all the way until the last 2 minutes but unfortunately, let up a late goal to end the game as a tie, wiping away post season hopes. The returners are hungrier than ever to make that run in the post season next year and preparation has already started!
The team's success was matched by multiple individuals earning recognition for their work on and off the field. Five players were named All-Region, six players were named All-Conference, five players earned CSC Academic All-District honors, and six players earned UAA All-Academic honors.
Additionally, our student-athletes continue to be active on campus and in the Rochester community. Team leaders are chairing committees on leadership, service, and diversity with each committee developing educational and experiential programming.
Offense
The Yellowjackets offense produced 25 goals in 2024, with 9 different players scoring, averaging 1.47 goals per game. They outshot their opponents 215 to 196 with 96 shots on goal. Sophomore midfielder Milos Bisenic led the team in goals (5) and tied for first for assists (4). He received Second-Team All-Region honors.
Defense
The strong back line of Rochester only allowed 14 goals in 17 games to go with 7 shutouts. Graduate student goalkeeper Santino Lupica-Tondo, senior defender/midfielder Nick Swanger, and junior defender Kol Bassuk helped lock it down in the back and all received All-Region honors.

Over the holiday season our students volunteer to "adopt a family". They were able to raise funds and donate gifts and household items to several local families in need.
Our students also volunteer with the Rochester City Soccer League which provides opportunities for children and teens to have fun, make friends, and build character through soccer.
