In this day and age, less and less people have enjoyed reading books and many instead choose the easier options of watching TV or movies, playing video games, or doom scrolling on social media. People who don’t read often think that there are no books out there that they would enjoy.
Fantasy
One of the most popular genres in both movies and books, fantasy has been around for a very long time, and has remained popular over the years. From 1937 and the release of J.R.R Tolkien's: "The Hobbit", up to 2005 and the release of Rick Riordan’s: "Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief", the amazing and often magical fantasy worlds that authors create have not ceased to amaze and enchant readers of all ages who are transported there.
If you enjoy things like:
- "The Legend of Zelda" (games)
- "Pirates of the Caribbean" (Movies)
- "The Labyrinth" (Movie)
- "Harry Potter" (Movies & books)
- "Once Upon a Time" (TV show)
- "Supernatural" (TV show)
- "Game of Thrones" (TV show & books)
This genre might be for you.
I would recommend that if you like adaptations such as "Harry Potter" or "A Wrinkle in Time", that you read the books of that same name. Other, similar, fantasy books include: "The Lord of the Rings" (J.R.R Tolkien), "The Land of Stories" (Chris Colfer), "Percy Jackson and the Olympians" (Rick Riordan), "The Chronicles of Narnia" (C.S Lewis), "Game of Thrones" (G.R.R Martin), or "Caraval" (Stephanie Garber).

Science Fiction/Dystopian
Science Fiction and Dystopian can be both different and similar depending upon the book, however, something they both have in common is an often futuristic or otherworldly setting. These books can serve as warnings to us in the present, hopeful visions for the future, or will simply explore things that our current science cannot paint as fact.
If you like other media such as:
- "Star Wars" (Movies)
- "Star Trek" (Moves)
- "Dune" (Movies)
- "The Hunger Games" (Movies & books)
- "Mad Max" (Movie)
- "Blade Runner" (Movie)
- "Interstellar" (Movie)
- or "The Matrix" (Movie)
This genre might interest you the most.
Once again, many of the aforementioned movies, such as "Dune", were adapted from popular books, and thus I would recommend any of those original books. More science fiction or dystopian books are: "The Giver" (Lois Lowry), "1984" (George Orwell), "The Lunar Chronicles" (Marissa Meyer), "The Hunger Games" (Suzanne Collins), "Divergent" (Veronica Roth), or "Fahrenheit 451" (Ray Bradbury)

If you like movies such as...
- "The Proposal" (Movie)
- "Never Been Kissed" (Movie)
- "27 Dresses" (Movie)
- "Ever After" (Movie)
- "The Notebook" (Movie)
- "Serendipity" (Movie)
- "Moulin Rouge" (Movie and Play)
Or other similar media, you might prefer the romantic genre.
If you're looking for a cozy romance book that can just as easily heal or break your heart, there are many options for you. These recommendations include: "Heartless" (Marissa Meyer), "Windfall" (Jennifer E. Smith), "The Fault in our Stars" (John Green), "Maybe This Time" (Kasie West), "The Cheat Sheet" (Sarah Adams), "Twilight" (Stephanie Meyer), "You’ve Reached Sam" (Justin Thao), "The Song of Achilles" (Madeline Miller), or "Romeo and Juliet" (Shakespeare).
