Champions fund

What is the Champions Fund?

The Champions Fund is a baseball-specific discretionary spending fund. This is George Mason's solution to increasing NIL opportunities. This account remains under the philanthropic umbrella, along with the separate Friends of Baseball foundation accounts. It is a top priority to strengthen this fund to enhance the program's ability to be competitive in a dynamic college baseball landscape.

Furthermore, funds raised here will directly impact George Mason baseball student-athletes at an individual level. The purpose of this fund is to supplement the associated costs of attendance and support the athlete where it may be needed (Ex, laptops, additional aid, and resources).

How is it different from Scholarships, NIL, or Friends of Baseball Foundation?

The Champions Fund (connected to Diamond Club Memberships) is available to players at the discretion of the Head Coach and Athletic Director. While Scholarships are technically funding provided by the state and university. Also, scholarships are awarded on a four-year contract, while Champions Funds can be adjusted yearly or by semester. The Friends of Baseball account has additional requirements and regulations for spending. Meaning, funds can only be allocated for the overall team usage, not for a particular player. The Champions Fund can be disseminated directly to individual athletes, adding to the impact on their experience.

How does joining The Diamond Club help?

The Champions Fund provides a unique opportunity to significantly improve an individual player financially. Never before could a program aid an athlete based on their specific circumstances. This flexibility will aid in advancing George Mason's recruitment & retention of championship-caliber talent here in Fairfax!
