Why We Give

Bill Dewey attending installation of chief, Swaziland 2009

As an undergrad Bill won a scholarship to spend a year studying in Nigeria. That year changed his life and he switched from being a pre-med major to studying African art. In graduate school Bill was fortunate to win a Fulbright fellowship to do his dissertation research in Zimbabwe. During his teaching career he won many fellowships and received a lot of support from schools to continue research abroad, attend conferences, and mount exhibitions. We feel study abroad experiences are very important for undergrads, and the ability for grad students to travel to do research is imperative, so we are happy to “carry it forward” and provide funds for both undergraduates and graduates to travel!
