Canbury School Newsletter 25th April 2025. ISSUE 364

Heads Welcome

Welcome back after what I hope was a restful and enjoyable Easter break. It's wonderful to see all the students back in our classrooms and corridors and looking so rested and ready for the Summer term.

We're diving straight into a busy term ahead, packed with exciting learning opportunities, events, and activities. Please do take a moment to look at the 'Dates for your Diary' section to keep abreast of everything that's planned.

This week's newsletter is a little shorter than usual as we settle back into the rhythm of school. However, please look forward to a full edition next week, once we've had a complete week back and have more news and updates to share.

I look forward to a productive and fulfilling term with you all.

Leavers Share Their Canbury Journey and Future Plans

The 2025 leavers took centre stage today, delivering a heartfelt and insightful assembly for the rest of the school. They eloquently reflected on their most cherished memories and experiences during their time at Canbury School, sharing laughter, anecdotes, and the moments that shaped their journey.

The assembly also offered a glimpse into their exciting futures, as they outlined their diverse plans. From further education at 6th form colleges and to vocational training, it was wonderful to hear about the varied paths our students are embarking on next.

Canbury Fundraising Efforts

Thank you to everyone supporting our efforts on # easyfundraising, we've had a great month and to date have £93.69 pounds raised.

All money raised will go towards purchasing our wish list which includes: a giant bubble/light tube, a traversing wall and eventually replacing our oldest mini bus.

AfC Workshops for Families

AFC is holding a series of workshops on various topics which might be of interest to our families. Please see below for details:

Our Mental Health Support Teams are currently delivering a series of webinars for parents of primary aged children and secondary aged children and young people (CYP).

The 'Helping children with...‘ and 'Helping teens with...’ series of webinars will cover a range of common difficulties experienced by CYP and will aim to share evidence-based strategies to help parents and carers support their CYP with these difficulties.

The only requirement is that parents have a child from reception upwards and that they attend a Kingston/Richmond school.

Smooth Wall 'Adolescence' resources

Please see the message below from one of our Internet Safety providers, Smoothwall:

As you may already be aware, the Netflix series Adolescence has been widely discussed over the last few weeks. The show provides a powerful, and at times difficult, look at the digital pressures young people face online and the role parents have to play in their digital wellbeing.

To help, we’ve created a resource page. It’s packed with practical advice, conversation starters, and useful insights to help parents navigate the various challenges the series brings to light.

From setting boundaries around screen time to processing upsetting online content, the resources are designed to give parents the tools and knowledge to take the next steps in supporting their child’s digital wellbeing.

SkillJumper App and Webinar

One of our parents has been hard at work developing an app called SkillJumper to support young people. It aims to help neurodivergent young people (5-25) become independent, self-sufficient and confident through the learning of daily life skills.

They are running a free seminar for parents next week, run by, Dr. Amie Duncan, who will share her insights on how to develop life skills for neurodivergent young people. If you can not make the date, register, as you will be able to download it at a later date.
