Take a close look at the many opportunities available Now - October with College Knowledge Month & Manufacturing Month!

Your Resources (EVENTS):

There are many great opportunities you should be taking advantage of over the next 6 weeks!

Your Resources (CAREER):

Your Resources (COLLEGE):

What is Direct Admissions?

Forest Lake Area High School participates in the state of Minnesota's Direct Admissions Program. That means you will receive a list of colleges that want to admit you! 50+ Minnesota public and private colleges and universities participate (notable exceptions include the University of MN Twin Cities & St. Olaf).

You will receive your list of of colleges on our Direct Admission Envelope Day on October 2 during your lunch.

What happens next? To make your acceptance official, you must still apply to the college/university.

FAFSA: Opens Oct.1!

Students who prepare now can submit their FAFSA as soon as it opens. Filing early is especially important because state grants and institutional scholarships often run out quickly. Early submissions also give colleges the information they need to build financial aid offers sooner, allowing students to compare award letters and make better-informed enrollment decisions. - School Links

The FAFSA is used by colleges to determine if and how much financial aid students should have access to in the form of:

  • Scholarships
  • Grants (federal, state, and institutional)
  • Federal Student Loans (subsidized and unsubsidized)
  • Work Study

You can do this step now. It takes several days to process before your FSA ID (needed for the FAFSA) is activiated.

FREE Tuition: North Star Promise (family AGI must be > $80k)

When to Submit an ACT or SAT?

Most students will apply to colleges which are "test optional", meaning a test score is not required as part of the student's application. However, there are benefits to submitting a test score: favorable impact an admittance decision, impact on scholarships, and a reduced need for spring of senior year placement tests.

What to know before submitting a score: Does your score fall in the middle 50% of scores for accepted students? If your score is in the lower 25%, DO NOT submit.

Enlisting

You can serve in the military in a variety of ways. In many cases, you can combine your service with college education, technical training, and/or civilian employment.

What test is needed?

If you plan to enlist, you must take the ASVAB, offered at FLAHS on November 13 after school. If you plan to pursue a military academy, you must take the ACT and/or SAT.

Who should I talk to?

Military recruiters visit FLAHS several times each month. Talk to recruiters from several branches. Talk to people who have served. Talk to teachers, your dean, your career & college coordinator.

College Visits: Your opportunity to meet with an admissions rep at school during a 30 minute visit.

Many more available in the coming weeks.

Career Field Trips: Your Opportunity to learn more about careers on site.
