Spring Term Newsletter 2 Blwyddyn 5 a 6

Last half term we had lots of fun learning about the Victorians, especially when we got to visit Blists Hill Victorian Town. Here are few photos from our trip.

Our new topic

This half term our topic is called 'Green Planet'.

We will be discussing ideas and planning our topic with the pupils in the next week. This topic will focus on the rainforest, plants and animals.

Homework

This half term the homework will link to our Green Planet topic. This will be another project based homework, similar to last half term about the Victorians. The homework grid will be made available on Google Classroom from Friday 7th March.

We will explain the homework task to the pupils in class sessions this week and remind them of how to access this on Google Classroom.

St David's Day

This week pupils will be taking part in a variety of activities to celebrate St David's Day. Our theme for this year is the dragon. We will be reading the story about how we came to have the Welsh Dragon on our flag. Pupils will be retelling the story to the younger pupils during World Book Day activities. We will also be creating dragon artwork.

World Book Day Thursday 6th March

On Thursday we will be celebrating World Book Day. Pupils will have the opportunity to come to school dressed as their favourite character and bring in a book to share with the younger pupils during our reading buddy sessions. We will also be taking part in a BBC live lesson and completing book activities in class.

Religion, Values and Ethics

As part of our religion, values and ethics learning we will be finding out more about the Hindu festival of Holi on Friday 14th March. Pupils are encouraged to come to school wearing brightly coloured clothes to celebrate.

P.E

For the first few weeks back there will be some changes to the P.E. timetable due to various other celebrations and events going on in school.

Week beginning 3rd March: Year 5 and 6 will have P.E. on Wednesday only.

Week beginning 10th March: Year 6 P.E. will be on Wednesday. Year 5 P.E. will be on Thursday. No P.E. for either class on Friday.

After this, P.E. days will continue to be on a Wednesday and Friday for Year 6 and a Thursday and Friday for Year 5. No jewellery to be worn and hair tied back please.

Please can pupils ensure they wear school P.E. kit for our Wednesday and Thursday sessions. In our Friday sessions from Friday 21st March onwards we will be starting cross-country running, please can children wear warm, old clothes that they don't mind getting muddy. It would also be helpful if they brought a spare pair of trainers and a carrier bag to take home muddy shoes after the Friday sessions.
