Project Description:
CORE is the new hub for health, wellness and connection in Elk Grove. Owned and operated by the Cosumnes Community Services District (CSD), the two-story facility fills a critical service gap for the community by offering year-round access to court sports, fitness and flexible programming for all ages and abilities. The existing 30-acre Morse Community Park was redesigned with natural and formal landscaping, bouldering walls, and outdoor event space with a performance area and a connection to other park amenities. Truly flexible and suitable for people of all ages and experience levels, CORE serves active families, casual users and fitness enthusiasts alike. Park features include four high school-sized basketball courts across two gymnasiums, an indoor walking/jogging track, a large fitness floor with cardio and strength equipment, three boutique fitness studios, outdoor fitness decks and turf areas, multipurpose rooms for youth and community programs, private locker rooms and showers, and versatile rental/event spaces. The outdoor fitness deck overlooks the event lawn and greater park, and is designed to host fitness classes, private gatherings and community events. The project’s architecture is inspired by the energy and tapestry of the surrounding community, and this inspiration is reflected in every design decision and material choice. Light Interference Color stainless steel tiles on the exterior appear to be in motion and change from blue to green to purple as visitors walk past them. The large turquoise sunshades filter dynamic light around the elevated track, and the all-electric project is designed to CalGreen Tier 2 specifications.
