Hoylandswaine School Alliance February Newsletter 2025

We hope that everyone has settled back into the new term and is looking forward to a restful week off. In this newsletter we wanted to share with you a summary of the fundraisers from last term, what we were able to provide for the children and the events we have coming up.

fundraising Events from last term

We had a really busy Autumn term with lots of fabulous events and some brilliant fundraising! Thank you to everyone who supported us and gave up their time to help on different occasions.

  • Bingo night, our first event of the term was a great way to catch up with friends and proved really popular with both children and parents. It was a fun night and we raised £247.40.
  • As always, the Halloween disco was a huge hit. It was great to see the children all dressed up, having a great time dancing and playing games. Big thanks to everyone who helped with this event and to all our parents for putting in such an effort with costumes! Together with the Halloween bake sale, the disco raised a massive £473.56!
  • We finally got to watch Wonka at movie night and everyone enjoyed popcorn and pizza. We raised £112.00!
  • Everyone did a great job designing their Christmas cards last term and we would like to say thank you to everyone that supported the fundraiser by buying cards, wrapping paper and the other lovely keepsakes. Your support helped us to raise £143.72.
  • Our Christmas afternoon tea joint fundraiser with Hoylandswaine church was a really lovely event. Everyone who came enjoyed the festive treats and visit from Santa. It was a pleasure to serve everyone. Thank you to everyone behind the scenes, it was a real team effort. We raised a fabulous £428.00 for HSA.
  • We held another very popular wreath making workshop just before Christmas and for the third year running everyone LOVED it! It was such a lovely Christmassy evening and everyone made a beautiful wreath. Massive thanks to everyone that joined us and helped forage and donate the most amazing foliage! This fantastic event raised a whopping £1251.37 - AMAZING!
  • The Christmas fair and the return of Father Christmas to our own school grotto was a big success. We also trialled the use of tokens to pay for games and this proved a real hit. Together with the Christmas raffle and bake sale we raised a combined £1117.00. Big thanks to everyone who donated prizes, bought tickets and gave donations for the fabulous hampers.
  • At the start of last term we were one of the three projects nominated for the Tesco Blue Token scheme. Amazingly, we came second in this and received £1000.00 towards our fundraising. Thank you to everyone who voted for us when they went to do their shopping!
  • We also registered HSA in the Asda CashPot for schools and your fabulous donations meant that we received £103.29.
  • We kicked off the start of this term with our Valentine's disco. Some real effort went into everyone's outfits and love was definitely in the air! For our first event of the year we raised £300.74.

Your fantastic fundraising enabled us to do the following -

At the start of the year we finally managed to have our ever popular inflatables day that got cancelled from the end of the summer term due to the weather. As always, the children (and staff) loved this. Although we may have had to throw away a few pairs of socks, the wet weather did not put a dampener on the fun. We even invited last year's Year 6's back as we didnt want them to miss out either!

Our current Year 6's head off to secondary school in September so we wanted to make sure that they had their leavers hoodies early this year to get the most use out of them before the warmer months. I'm sure you will have spotted them around school, it's not often that you see one of them without a hoodie on! We will also be introducing a new leavers gift this year - a Y6 leavers yearbook, a nice keepsake full of lots of photographs, messages and memories from their time at Hoylandswaine Primary School.

Thanks to everyone's amazing fundraising efforts, we were able to provide lots of Christmas treats including a beautiful Christmas tree for the school hall, crackers to share with Christmas dinner and a selection box treat to take home for the holidays. The icing on the cake was the trip to the Lamproom theatre to watch Sleeping Beauty. This was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. The children really enjoyed getting involved this year and were up dancing at every opportunity!

Looking Forward

After half term and once the weather improves a little we will be liaising with Miss Redfearn and getting some quotes for an outdoor shelter/seating area for the playground. We are hoping to get something in place during the spring time so that it can be enjoyed during the final months of the school year. If anyone has any ideas or knows of anyone who could help with this, please get in touch - hoylandswaineschoolalliance@gmail.com

We will also be planning some more treats for the children to enjoy so watch this space!

Spring term events

MOTHER'S DAY SECRET SHOP

We will be holding our very popular Mother's Day Secret Shop again this year during the w/c 17th March. The children will have the chance to buy a gift for their mums or grandmas or any special lady in their life. Gifts will be available from £1 up to £5 and all will be wrapped and distributed for children to take home on Friday 28th March just in time for the big day.

NON-UNIFORM DAY

Children can come to school in their own clothes on Friday 28th March in return for an Easter egg donation towards our egg tombola!

EASTER EVENT

This years Easter event will take place on Friday 4th April. Last year this event was a real success. Lots of children had their own stalls and we would like to invite the children to run their own stall or game again. Please get in touch if you would like to be a part of this. We will have all the usual stalls too including cakes and bakes and our Easter egg tombola!

SILVER SMARTIES FUNDRAISER

We will be giving the children a tube of Smarties on Friday 4th April and asking them to take on the challenge of returning the tube after the Easter holiday, filled with 20p's. Encourage the children to do tasks, chores or activities over the easter break to earn 20p's which they can put in their Smartie tube. There will be a prize for the class that can collect the most 20p's!

Summer Event

Get your diaries out and pencil in Saturday 14th June 2025! To welcome in the summer, we are holding an adult only Summer event at Parkhouse Farm. Jen and Sam Raynes have very kindly offered to host the event for us and we can't wait to see you all there. We will have a bar, hot roast sandwiches and LIVE music! More details to follow but spread the word, invite your friends and family and help us to make this summer fundraiser a huge success.

Don't forget that you can keep up to date with all our events on our twitter page @HswpHSA as well as our Facebook page @HoylandswaineSchoolAlliance.
