2023 Archy Beals Legacy Award recipients
Jarvis, Motorcycle and Power Products Repair, Lunenburg Campus
"While being a full-time student, I am also a father, coach and I currently work 30 hours a week. This award helps me with the cost of my second semester tuition, as I am paying for everything out of pocket. I attend the campus in Bridgewater, and live in Dartmouth. This means I make a 115km one way commute twice a day 5 times a week. This award gives me the ability to better budget for gas expenses second semester. I just want to say I am thankful for being selected to receive this award. Words are unable to describe how grateful I am."
"I am a 25 year old father who is in the middle of a career change. I previously went to college for corrections and law enforcement, and worked for the Nova Scotia Department of Justice as a Correctional Officer. After what felt like a long three years in that field, I realized that wasn’t what I was actually passionate about.
I decided to take some time off to reflect on what it is I love and would like to pursue for the remainder of my life. Everything in my life pointed to me doing something in the Motorcycle and Power Sports Industry. I decided to attend NSCC to help grow my knowledge and hopefully one day be in a position to start and grow my own business.
I am passionate about being a father and giving back to my community, Working 12 and 16 hour shifts took away from the things I love outside of work. My hope is to one day be in a position to spend more time with my kids and give back to my community through coaching. I think I am able to do that while working in the industry I would enjoy."
