Welcome to the March 2025 newsletter from Lydon Contracting Ltd. We're proud of the work we do and want to share our latest news, useful information and staff updates.
Connecting people
During March we have constructed another 4no. JRF110 BT chambers on either side of the newly constructed concrete bridge deck to complete the BT network diversion to accommodate the HS2 construction works in the area.
It was great to be recognised for our meticulous quality of work and flawless execution by the Balfour Beatty Vinci (BBV) quality team.
Power of the sun
Works are progressing well with the 33kV duct installation to connect a new solar farm in Warwickshire. Over 1km of the 1.5km route has now been installed with the finish line in sight.
The final phase of works includes a bespoke design to cross over the canal bridge which will be installed next month.
Access all areas
During March we have commenced the construction of the permanent access road for the DNO/IDNO substation we have built over the past 12 months in Bicester.
Works to date have included construction of a temporary access road, compound area, ground preparation, CBR Testing and the installation of the 33 & 11kV ducting.
The next phase of works will see the drainage system installed, including the interceptor and attenuation tanks.
Green energy
March saw the completion of one of our EV infrastructure schemes in Leicester that will enable 4no. EVC chargers (8 vehicles) to be commissioned.
This site is part of a nationwide scheme to install EVC’s to all of the client’s premises (Greene King). The works at Grove Farm consisted of a new IDNO substation construction together with feeder pillar and rectifier units to enable the Installation of 4No EVC’s.
Works have progressed well and ahead of client’s programme expectations.
On the grid
During March we have commenced work on a major renewable energy project in Norwich. Works include the installation of 4no. 33kV circuits that will connect a new BESS facility and Solar farm to the National Grid substation near Norwich.
The first phase of works was to construct a new compound area to accommodate offices, welfare and material holding area. We have then commenced the installation of the 33kV ducting networks in the A140 carriageway.
Given the ground make up and width of trench, we have deployed a planing machine to remove the first 300mm of carriageway material straight into a 8 wheeler lorry.
Training and Development
As a company training and development are crucial aspects in the workplace for boosting employee skills, increasing productivity, enhancing job satisfaction, and improving retention, ultimately contributing to a more successful and competitive organisation.
We continuously look at offering information, instruction, and training to promote and improve Health and Safety and to expand our employee’s knowledge base, this in turn will help to reduce and prevent any injuries and provides the company with a healthy workforce. This month’s training has included:
- Various plant, Formwork and development NVQ’s
- First Aid
- Health & Safety Awareness
- Asbestos Awareness
- Manual Handling
- Environmental Awareness
- Fire Marshal.

Head Office build
Construction of the extension to our Head Office building is picking up pace. Half of the building is up to first lift level for scaffolding and our brickwork contractor is moving onto the other ‘wing’ whilst the scaffold is installed to the first section.
The new offices will incorporate latest energy saving technologies, including solar roof panels, battery storage, and an air source heat pump cooling and heating system. The new car parking will also include charging points for electric vehicles as we look to the future and transition our vehicle fleet.
