Cowbridge Lower School Newsletter 13.10.23

An interesting start to this week in Lower School, Christmas arrived! 🎅🎄(no, we are not joking!). We have been busy making Christmas designs to send off so that Mums and Dads can buy cards, gift tags etc. to send out to friends and family! Nursery used their hands and made them into Christmas trees and Reception used their feet and made them into Reindeer.

On Wednesday, Nursery and Reception went on an Autumn walk around the school. We went up to 'the big school' and explored the wellbeing garden, we even found an apple tree and picked some apples. We went across the fields down to the forest where we ran around in the leaves and Mrs Davies set a challenge as to who could find a leaf bigger than the one she found. We used the leaves to talk about the changes that happen in Autumn to the leaves and the trees as well as using them for some counting.

Nursery have carried on their learning about their school and family community. They are having a great time at their 'dough disco' where they use playdough to strengthen their fingers, this week they were grooving away to I like to move it, move it! In our Lower School assembly, they learnt about cooperation and teamwork. There has been a lot of teamwork in action in class, tidying up, helping friends with work and sharing the resources. Team work makes the dream work!

Reception have made an autumn cave in their classroom, with a campfire! They have learnt how to make leaf rubbings and prints as well as making leaf crowns. They have built 3D models and practiced naming the shapes they used. Building on from their book look from last week, they decided to make books all about numbers. They are getting really good at counting and writing their numbers now! They have also started learning about subtraction using the nursery rhyme '10 in a bed'.
