We're back. The 2nd year Expressive art students have 6 weeks to complete component 1 and the Year 1s are well into the skills portion of the course. I hope you were able to explore the local areas with our recommendations from last term. I hope some of you got further afield. You should have loads of great new ideas to get started. This week I've shred some surprise releases some opportunities for you and some great TV and Film so you can stop doom scrolling all the horrendous stuff that is going on in the world. We hope you'll find a bit of headspace in the selection I've put together.

NEW SONG: THE BEATLES NOW AND THEN

Yesterday, the Beatles released a new song!!!! It's been made possible when technology was able to seperate and improve a vocal of John Lennon from a casette recording. With the use of Ai they remastered the sound and the remaining Beatles played the rest of the parts. It sounds pretty good to be honest worth a listen.

GO AND SEE IN BOLTON: KNIFE ANGEL

Read about it in the Bolton News here

This incredible sculpture has appeared in Bolton and is well worth a visit over. The sculpture is made of Knives that were turned in by communities in an amnesty to try and get Knifes off the streets. The sculpture is to hi-light the problems we face with knife crime and the scale of the angel hi-lighting the huge problem we still have. Go and have a look at the amazing structure over the weekend. It's an fabulous work, despite the grim meaning.

BBC IPLAYER: PLANET EARTH 3

Yet another incredible nature series by David Attenborough and the teams.

Do I need to say more. The making of sections are fantastic for us to see how to get the shots and how much time, effort and patience went into the preparation and planning, before anything was filmed.

BBC IPLAYER: HALLOWEEN COLLECTION

It's Halloween this week. The BBC has an incredible mix of films available to watch for free.

From a creative point of view their are some iconic moments. In class we have talked by The Shining influence repeatedly as so many artists are inspired by it. Looking at the posters is fun to see the similarities in the imagery in the posters. Graphic designers know what works to get us hooked.

Jordan Peele is heavily featured in the BBC list. He has made or been a part of some of the best new horror films and many people credit him with Horror's recent resurgence. You can watch Get Out and Us which he Directed and The Candyman which he Produced.

Some classic oldies on the list too.

Do be aware of age restrictions before you watch some of the films.

CERCLE: THE BLAZE IN A CAVE

Last term I shared an incredibly spectacular performance by French Band The Blaze. It's below if you missed it. As it's sister video Cercle also got The Blaze to play in an amazing Cave too. On the top of a mountain and then in the bowels of the earth. The cave itself is full of Stalagmites and Stalactites and is lit pretty spectacularly too.

Here's last years video for the first years who didn't see it. incredible scenery and cool music.

PLACES TO VISIT: MILAN

Over Half Term I visited my brother in Milan. You might think why is is telling us about Milan. Well... it was cheaper than getting to London on the train and the weather and food was much better.

Milan is full of great culture, food and architecture. From incredible churches to skyscrapers full of trees.

Obviously, you'd have to plan to go with your family but the flight was less than two hours so there is potential for a day trip.

We visited a number of great galleries and saw some amazing exhibitions. They are listed below. The Duomo in the centre of the city worth going to see on it's own. The Armani flagship store and 10 Corso Como a must for the cutting edge of fashion and lifestyle.

Museo del Novecento
Luigi & Iango: Unveiled

HIGHLY recommended as a destination I'm looking forward to going back very soon.
