Greenland Photo Workshop 2025 Trip reporT: Tom Bol Photo Workshops

Disko Bay

Greenland has some of the most spectacular iceberg photography in the world. The town of Ilulissat has the most active glacier in the world and it sends out a staggering amount of ice into Disko Bay. Our workshops navigate through the icebergs in the evening by small boat. This allows us to photograph the ice up close with dramatic backgrounds.

Shapes and Textures

Every evening is different in Disko Bay. During our workshops we spend 4 evenings out among the icebergs. Each morning we meet in a conference room to discuss editing and share images with each other.

Vibrant Town

We spend several photo sessions walking around town in Ilulissat. The colorful houses and friendly locals are perfect subjects for street and travel photography.

Wildlife

Both groups photographed Humpback Whales and Glaucous Gulls while navigating through Disko Bay. The whales come in to feed near the icebergs. With so much ice in the bay this year, we headed out further to look for whales near offshore islands.

Arctic Plants

The plant life in Greenland is very similar to what we photograph in Alaska. Tundra plants, Cotton Grass and Dwarf woody trees are prevalant and work well for landscape foregrounds.

Dog Sled Culture

The town of Ilulissat has a rich culture of using dog sleds for transportation. Our group met with a Greenlandic local for a photo shoot at the kennel. The 5 day old puppies were a highlight for everyone.
