Term 2 Week 3 Newsletter 2025

Principal Message

It has been a calm and positive start to Term 2 at Kambora. Students have returned to school settled, focused and ready to learn. Classrooms are full of purposeful activity and it has been wonderful to see students re-engaging with their peers and teachers so smoothly after the break.

A settled start like this does not happen by chance. It is a reflection of the strong routines, clear expectations and supportive relationships we have across the school community. Thank you to our staff for the consistency and care they provide every day, and to our families for preparing students so well for the term ahead.

We look forward to building on this strong start as the term progresses.

Cross Country 2025: Event Recap

On Monday 5 May, our students laced up their runners and took to the oval for the annual Kambora Cross Country. With great energy and determination, all students gave it their best and should be proud of their efforts. It was fantastic to see so much encouragement, perseverance and school spirit on display throughout the day.

We were fortunate to have the support of many parent volunteers who helped make the event run smoothly. A big thank you also to the Davidson High School students who assisted with marshalling and encouraging our runners across the course.

Well done to everyone who participated. We are proud of your achievements and wish our representatives the best of luck at the upcoming zone carnival.

School Photos

School photos will be taken on Monday 19 May. Students are asked to wear their full winter school uniform and arrive on time, ready for the day.

Basketball Homesport

Each Friday morning, our homesport students have been enjoying Basketball sessions with our fantastic external coaches. These sessions have been a great opportunity for students to learn the rules of the game, build their skills, and stay active through a variety of fun and engaging Basketball games. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow each week as they develop their coordination, teamwork, and love for the sport.

Students in the spotlight

We’re proud to share the achievements of Reuben, who recently participated in the Head Above Water charity swim to raise funds and awareness for mental health. Reuben, who attends Ability Fit, was part of this inspiring community event that brings people together to support mental fitness and wellbeing through swimming.

Head Above Water is a 24-hour swimathon that raises money for preventative mental health programs. By taking part, Reuben demonstrated great resilience, commitment, and community spirit.

Well done, Reuben — what a fantastic way to make a difference!

Thank you P&C and Parent Volunteers

We would like to sincerely thank our amazing P&C for their outstanding work in transforming our school gardens. Your time, effort and care in clearing and planting new greenery have made a noticeable and positive impact on our school environment.

We also extend our thanks to all parents who have volunteered so far this year. Whether you’ve helped at BBQ events like the election day BBQ, supported the Mother’s Day celebration, helped in the gardens, or assisted with organising the Discovery Tour – your contributions are valued and appreciated.

At the election day BBQ, the P&C raised an impressive $2,197.69, which is an excellent result.

Your dedication and the pride you bring to our school community make a real difference. Thank you.

National Simultaneous Storytime

Next Wednesday, 21 May, Kambora will be celebrating National Simultaneous Storytime, an annual event organised by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA), and implemented by our amazing Teacher Librarian, Mrs Virginia Allman.

This year’s book is Truck Cat, written by Deborah Frenkel and Danny Snell. The story features a character who wears an iconic hat—and to mark the occasion and celebrate 25 years of this wonderful event, students are invited to wear their favourite sun-safe hat or cap to school on the day.

We’re looking forward to celebrating the joy of reading together with students all over the country!

Extra Curricular Opportunities

Art Enrichment

After a term full of 3D projects, students kicked off the Term 2 Art Enrichment program exploring the world of Abstract Art.

Vibrant, ribbon-like compositions that practically dance across the page were created. Inspired by contemporary Californian artist Amber Vittoria, known for her bold use of color and fluid forms, students crafted double-sided colored paper strips transformed into mesmerising zigzag patterns.

The project challenged our young artists to think about composition, colour relationships, positive and negative space as they arranged their colorful ribbons. Come and view these pieces and more where they are on display in the main hallway next to our art room.

The abstract nature of this project allowed students to experiment freely with color combinations while still working within a structured technique.

It reinforced fine motor skills through careful tracing, cutting lines, colouring, cutting, folding and gluing, while simultaneously introducing our abstract art theme in an accessible, playful format. The finished artworks are bursting with vibrant hues against neutral backgrounds, and I’m sure you will agree, bring a welcome splash of color to our entry hallway.
