What is it? Nursery, spring term, week 2

It has been a week full of investigating and thinking carefully about questions such as 'What is it?' and 'How do you know?'. We discovered lots of eggs outside which started of an enquiry into what an egg is and why we have eggs. The children were shocked to find out many animals come from eggs (and equally so many do not!).

Looking at a range of different colour eggs and comparing them.
During our learning through using our imaginations, a ginormous egg was discovered in the classroom. We still know nothing about it but we are watching carefully.
The children have been speculating about what could be inside the egg. Sadly it's not going to be chocolate, which was a popular guess.
An excellent suggestion.

They have all been working on their writing skills with enthusiasm. We've been writing numbers and drawing shapes to practise moving from left to right across a page.

Elsewhere in the classroom, we've been studying Van Gogh and his story night paintings. We had a go at weaving coloured paper and creating starry pictures of our own by smudging chalk.

A special treat this week was to meet up with our reading buddies in the library. It's so fabulous to be able to have a buddy to read the children stories that they have chosen. I believe Year 6 are enjoying learning how to adapt their language and interaction with young children too.

It's been very cold but our outside environment has been as popular as ever. Look at the lovely smiles in the afternoon sun...

Another lush week in nursery.
