A Bird Can’t Help But Fly Home
New music from the arid hills of far west NSW From Broken Hill, Aimee Volkofsky has released a collection of songs drawing inspiration from the landscapes and people of her home in far west New South Wales. This collection of eight tracks, recorded in an afternoon with fiddle extraordinaire Cat Moser, delves deep into the experiences, landscapes, and emotions that shape life in one of the world’s most isolated and strikingly beautiful regions, Wilyakali and Barkindji Country. Each of the eight songs are steeped in the landscape and history of her home in Broken Hill, a mining town that birthed the union movement in Australia, and close to the site of some of the oldest art in the world.
Aimee Volkofsky is a singer-songwriter based in the Silver City (Broken Hill), on Wilyakali and Barkindji Country, far west NSW. Born from the ancient landscapes she lives in, Aimee’s music weaves together folk, country, and blues. Drawing inspiration from her hometown, she brings to life the rich tapestry of Broken Hill’s history - the stories of worker’s uprisings, rebel women, and the resilience forged in the face of tragic hardship.
Living isolated from touring routes and traditional music industry, Aimee has forged her own path of creative output, collaborating with visiting and local artists to far west NSW, producing gigs, festivals, and campfire sing-alongs. She is passionate about doing anything she can to foster a vibrant musical community in Far West New South Wales.
