Summer term update

Take a look at whats been happening on campus and what to expect over the summer term.

Changes to campus bus routes

Refectory Road is scheduled to reopen to all vehicles in June, with new traffic lights and a new pedestrian crossing connecting to East Slope Road/Northfield Lane. When Refectory Road reopens, the Bramber House bus stop will be reinstated, and buses will serve Refectory Road and Northfield Lane before leaving campus via East Slope Road.

West Slope

Before the Spring term ended, we celebrated the start of West Slope building construction, with student ambassadors joining Vice-Chancellor Sasha Roseneil and the Mayor of Brighton & Hove to mark the occasion with a ceremonial ground-breaking. You can read more about it on the Student Hub.

Did you know that we are reusing the rubble from the demolition of our old buildings to build construction roads? Over the summer term and beyond, work will be underway to build our new Health and Wellbeing Centre and residences, and we will start to see more large construction vehicles and cranes on site, as well as more construction vehicles on campus roads – so please take care when moving around campus.

Atrium Market and Eat Central

Atrium Market, our new contactless store in the Student Centre is now open. For the ultimate in convenience, the Atrium Market doesn’t have a till – instead, you simply scan your payment card on entering, select your food or drinks, then walk out. For more information about the Atrium Market visit the Student Hub.

Eat Central remains shut for an exciting refurbishment, which includes new interiors, flexible seating, new screens, and a stage. But there are lots of delicious food and drinks options still available on the lawns outside, including our new Pizza Rebellion vending machine that's available 24/7 – check out the student hub for inspiration!

RAAC

The work to replace RAAC (Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete) on the roof of Bramber House is complete, and work is now underway in Grade I Listed Falmer House, which when finished will enable Mandela Hall to reopen. Read more on the Student Hub.

School of Education and Social Work

A new project to replace the windows in Essex House, home to the School of Education and Social Work, will begin this term helping to make the building more energy efficient.

Student Spaces Survey

In our 2023 student spaces survey, nearly 2,000 students told us how they use space on campus for study, socialising and sport. In our next survey, we are asking about your experience of being able to access these spaces, and in particular the University of Sussex Library. Fill out the survey to have your say.
