My museum Joey Colitti

Museum Description-

The theme that I have chosen is nature and landscapes. I chose this theme because nature is something that is personally close to me and I love being out in nature. I also chose this because I am a photographer and I take lots of photos of nature. I find this to be comforting and that is why it is so close to my heart. I will explore this more by finding artists that are generally famous for nature landscapes and I will use those types of images and the ones that I find the most beautiful.

Impact Statement-

The impact that I want my museum to have is just one of beauty. I want my visitors to be awestruck when they leave and feel the need to connect with nature after they are done looking at all of the artwork. This is because I believe that everyone should be connected to nature and it is just so important in our lives. I want to make the world a more beautiful place and help people realize that all we have is whats around us so we need to take care of it like nature.

Sunsets

Sunsets relates to my overall theme of nature as it is a very beautiful part of nature. I chose these artworks as they all have the colors of sunsets showing their beauty.

"Willow Mill", "Pond in the Woods", "The Lake, Petworth Sunset, Fighting Bucks", "The Sunset".

Willow Mill, Albrecht Durer, 1497

This belongs in my museum as it shows nature with the trees and the sunset in the back. This fits into the theme of nature and the subtopic of sunsets.

(Form) The form of this painting is with the colors of the sunset contrasting with the colors of the water. This gives a very surreal feeling with the different colors. The proportions also play a large part with the tree being so close and everything else is farther. These all make the painting look very beautiful.

Pond in the Wood, Albrecht Durer, 1496

This image connects to the theme of nature as it has a pond and the trees. These are all nature and it connects to the subtopic of sunset because it has the colors of a sunset in the back.

(content) The content of this is shown with the tranquilness of the pond and the sky. The water is calm with little ripples which gives his message of peace. The trees also help to create a more peaceful scene. These details make the content of the painting conveying the message.

The Lake, Petworth Sunset, Fighting Bucks, J.M.W. Turner, 1829

This image connects to the theme of nature as it has live animals and trees and open fields all around. This also connects to the subtopic of sunset as the colors of the Sky suggest a sunset.

(context) The nature of this photo capture Turner's ability to create dramatic effects with the lighting and scenery. The art also shows the context of Turner's abilities to be able to focus on the detail such as the animals. The context of this painting is showing the artists skills. All of these demonstrations represent different abilities of the artist.

The Sunset, Giorgio Vasari, 1508

This artwork depicts trees and open land showing the nature of the world. This also connects to the subtopic of sunsets as it is titled the sunset as well as the colors of the sky.

(content) The content of this focuses on the man on the horse. This is symbolism for the end of life as it shows the man looking at a dead tree root. This content is shown by the skills of the artist. These details symbolize deeper meanings.

Civilization

Civilization connects to the theme of nature as humans are often connected with nature and can be rooted in it. I chose these as they all have civilization in them.

Landscape with the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, Landscape with a Footbridge, Miracle of St. Catherine, Charon Crossing the Styx.

Landscape with the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, Joachim Patinir, 1520

This painting connects to nature as it shows the rocks and open land which is nature. This also connects to civilization as it shows a city in the background.

(form) Perspective is a large part of this image. The rocks in the front of the image contrast with the city in the background. The colors of the red city and the white rocks also play a large part. These colors are part of the form and give the contrast of city and nature. This form makes the painting more meaningful.

The colors of the people with the fire on the hill also contrast the colors of the city in the back. This gives a surreal feeling to the painting. This also makes the painting more realistic.

Charon Crossing the Styx, Joachim Patinir, 1522.

This connects to the theme of nature as it shows a large body of water and lots of greenery around. This also connects to civilization because it shows two cities separated by a river.

(content) The man in this symbolizes humanity being caught between two worlds. These worlds are of destruction and normal. This content shows the man with someone else in his boat and he is scared. It can represent human fear and unsureness.

Seasons

The theme seasons can connect to nature as each season represents different aspects of nature. I chose these as they all represent a different season.

Spring (The Earthly Paradise), Nicolas Poussin, 1662.

This image connects to the theme of nature as it is in the middle of nature with trees all around. This connects to seasons as it is titled spring.

(form) The lines of the trees give them a bigger and more important feel. The perspective of the trees being in the front also gives this feeling of importance. These connect to make the feeling of nature present. The colors of the sky and trees also contrast.

The Summer (Ruth and Boaz), Nicolas Poussin, 1662.

This connects to nature as it is the middle of a field. This connects to seasons as it is titled Summer.

(content) The people in this give it its content. The woman drinking shows it is hot. This means it must be summer as it is hot. The people could also be symbols of the season as they have lots of orange on which is typically a warm color. There are also animals and a city which could represent the people.

Autumn Landscape with a View of Het Steen, Peter Paul Rubens, 1635.

This image connects to the theme of nature as it is a field with a nice sky. This connects to seasons as it is titled Autumn.

(form) The form of this image is represented by the way the land stretches on. This gives the feeling of a large world. This shows how large nature is and how expansive it is. The colors also contrast which shows a feeling of contrast between people in the bottom of the image and nature in the rest.

Winter landscape, Esaias van de Velde, 1623.

This image connects to the theme of nature as it is people on a frozen lake out in the world. This connects to seasons as it is titled Winter.

(content) The content of this image is very subtle and is just lots of people on ice. This shows the human connection with nature. This connection is very important to us as humans and is why the artist added it. That content shows how we as humans live and connect.

I want the viewer of this museum to take away the beauty of nature and be able to appreciate it more fully whenever they are presented with the beauty of nature. I want people to go out and experience nature fully.
