End of Term 2

Uniform

We are nearly at the end of another busy term -many thanks to all of our families who are working with us to maintain uniform expectations, in particular jumpers appropriate for school on our colder days. Uniform jackets or jumpers are ideal, and where this is not possible a plain, preferably dark sloppy joe worn under school shirts is acceptable.

Reports

Year 11 progress reports were made available via our parent portal on Friday 28 June.

Years 9 and 10 will become available on the last day of term, while Years 7 and 8 will be available early next term.

Opportunities

It has been an incredibly busy term, with so many curricular and extra curricular opportunities being provided for our students:

  • The outstanding STEM project learning days, generally conducted in conjunction with our partner primary schools – the most recent of which were last week, led by Mr Wiggins
  • The wonderful week long camps at Lake Keepit for Years 8, 9 and 10 coordinated by our Deputy Principals
  • The Sports Excellence Program, with morning coaching set to expand to Basketball next term, under the leadership of Mr Bassingthwaighte
  • Ongoing opportunities across a broad spectrum of representative Sport, coordinated by Mr Ella and Mr Hillard.
  • The outstanding Winter Collective student performance evenings coordinated by Mrs McPherson, Mr Holliday and the CAPA staff, set to go off this week.
  • Our celebration of NAIDOC week over the next few days, coordinated by Mr Matthias and the Aboriginal Education Team.
  • As part of a state wide Rotary initiative, short films produced by our students, exploring the issue of domestic violence. Thanks to Mrs Mann and Mr Holliday for their coordination.
  • Big Picture Exhibition Week, with students in Years 9, 10 and 11 showcasing their work on identified areas of interest, drawing on real world learning experiences. Many thanks to Mr Keevers, Mr Spry, Mrs Rodenberg and Mr Spring for their work with our Big Picture students.

The above is not a comprehensive list of everything that has happened at Kingscliff High School, but certainly represents a “highlights package” of the great things that can happen through the great relationships which exist among our students, between teachers and students, and the support we enjoy from our school community.

Term 3

Monday 22 July is a Staff Development Day, all students will return on Tuesday 23 July. Mr Borg will be the Relieving Principal for the first two weeks of Term 3.

Wishing all of our school community a safe and enjoyable week, and winter vacation to follow.

E-bikes are Growing in Popularity

In NSW, there are two types of permitted e-bikes:

1. A power-assisted pedal cycle

2. Electrically power-assisted cycle

Both of these come with certain rules. These rules are listed below

https://education.nsw.gov.au/.../riding-e-bikes-and...

Please note, all petrol-powered bicycles are illegal on NSW roads and road-related areas like footpaths, shared paths, cycle ways and cycle paths.

Students are not permitted to ride petrol-powered bicycles or e-bikes that don't comply with legislative standards to and from school.

The Calves have Names!

All Schools Touch Football Gala Day

Congratulations to the 11 students who represented Kingscliff High School as part of the 9/10 Boys Touch Football team, which took part in the All Schools Touch Football Gala Day on Tuesday 18 June 2024.

With a place at the state titles up for grabs, Kingscliff High School competed against 8 other schools playing 4 games throughout the day. Finishing with 1 win, 1 draw and 2 losses, Kingscliff High School finished in equal 4th position on the day. Well Done to all of the students involved, for competing with great enthusiasm, fairness and respect.

BIG PICTURE

Young people are the future of wildlife conservation.

We're thrilled to be part of the Big Picture program at Kingscliff High School, which emphasises real-world learning.

Learning internship coordinator Ross Keevers and students Rachael, Macey, and Isla recently visited Tweed Valley Wildlife Carers President Jan Pilgrim, who also serves as the Small Mammals Coordinator.

With her extensive experience, Jan has a wealth of knowledge to share.

We were impressed by these students and look forward to welcoming more in the future to pass on knowledge and support Tweed Shire's future eco-warriors.
