Carroll 5 Homestead 4

Thursday, May 14

Carroll traveled to Homestead on Thursday evening to play the rubber match of their three game series.    Homestead got on the board in the second when they lead off with a single and then a few poor throws and decisions by the Chargers and the Spartans took full advantage of the sloppy play and jumped on top 4 – 0 after two.

The Chargers got one back in the top of the third when Adler Kellams singled , stole second base and then scored on Riley Geiger’s RBI single.   Charger pitcher, Kellen Harrison responded in the third striking out the side and put up an important zero on the board.

The stagnant Carroll offense remained silent until the 6th when Eli Neuhouser was hit by a pitch, followed by a Blake Fitzpatrick  single.  Later in the inning a Patrick Cain infield single drove in a run.   The big hit came from Carter Irons when doubled with the bases loaded scoring 2 runs to tie it up but a great play by the Spartans threw out the go ahead run at the plate on a bang bang play.

The top of the 7th started with an Aiden Corzine single, followed by a Kellams walk.  Corzine moved up on a ball in the dirt and came home with the go ahead run on a Riley Geiger SAC fly, his second RBI of the night.

Jayce Richards pitched 4 innings of very good relief, allowing just two hits while striking out 6 and picked up the win on the mound.   Carroll returns to action on Saturday when they host Huntington North, starting at 10 AM.
