Next up.... a "Sweet" Surprise!

Known as the Highland Chocolatier, Iain Burnett is a world-class chocolate artisan based in the heart of Scotland. Iain makes a wide range of spiced pralines and dipped fruits, but it’s the Velvet Truffles® which have brought him to worldwide recognition as a Master Chocolatier and Truffle Specialist. He and his small, highly skilled team of chocolatiers meticulously hand-craft truffles which are beautifully boxed as "Unenrobed" pure truffle ganache covered only in cocoa or fruit powder, or "Enrobed" meaning they are delicately covered in a paper-thin layer of chocolate before being decorated with colourful cocoa butter designs.

Iain Burnett’s Velvet Truffles® have won over 40 prestigious awards ranging from Academy of Chocolate Awards Gold, to Great Taste Awards Triple Gold, to Scotland Food & Drink’s Product of the Year, to World Gold at the International Chocolate Awards - twice!

All of Iain's chocolates are alcohol free and suitable for vegetarians and are made only with natural, fresh ingredients, there are no artificial flavours, additives or preservatives. Iain uses a single-origin cocoa from the South Atlantic island of São Tomé to craft his award-winning chocolates. This rare cocoa is mixed with crushed fruits, exotic spices and unblended fresh Scottish cream to create the famous Velvet Truffle.

Today... we begin our day with a visit to the House of Fraser Kilt Making Center!
Kilt maker & Supplier of Highland Dress, Inverness, Scotland
Ceud Mìle Fàilte! A traditional Gaelic greeting which means “a hundred thousand welcomes”.

A family business, Highland House of Fraser is steeped in the tradition of Highland Dress. Situated on the west bank of the River Ness. We boast a selection of Scotland’s finest clothing, textiles and gifts.

Manufacturers of Highland Dress, we have been making bespoke kilts within our premises for over 50 years, continuing the tradition of the finest hand sewn kilts.

~ The Craft of the Kilt Maker ~

At Highland House of Fraser we have been making kilts for over 50 years. Our kiltmakers are housed within our premises at The Scottish Kiltmaker Visitor Centre. If visiting in person, you can meet the people who make kilts, and discover for yourself the craftsmanship and expertise that goes into the making of each and every kilt – from the cutting of the cloth, to the pleating and stitching.

Employing skilled men and women, the Centre enables visitors to see the different stages of kilt manufacture and the individual care lavished on every kilt. How much cloth is needed to make a kilt? How many pleats make it hang properly? What’s the correct length? What’s the correct way to wear full Highland Dress? This is where you’ll find the answers to all these questions!

Our kilts are made to strict traditional handcraft kilt manufacturing methods involving hand-pleating and fully hand sewing, using the best of materials in canvas, lining and threads.

Moving on...... Let's meet some Highland cows! They are an icon of Scotland
Highland cows are instantly recognizable

The Highland cow has a very distinctive look, setting it apart from other cattle breeds. You can recognise them by their long fluffy hair and two large horns. They may be a number of colours, including ginger, red, black, white, grey, silver and tan.

They are hardy, yet gentle
They come from the Scottish Highlands

Of course, Higland cows originated here in the Scottish Highlands. They are one of the oldest registered cattle breeds in the world. Originally, they were divided into two types; the Highlander of the mainland, and the smaller Kyloe of the islands. However, they are now all classed as one breed.

Their horns have many uses

Their long, pointy horns may look dangerous, but the cows generally use them to rake through the snow in winter, looking for food. You can also use them to tell the difference between male and females. Males have shorter, thicker and straighter horns, females have longer upward curving horns.

Today, we head to Ft William! Along the way, we will begin by driving through some of the most majestic highlands of Scotland

The Cairngorm Mountains offer some of the most spectacular and magical scenery in the UK. Located just 30 minutes from Inverness, Cairngorms National Park is home to some of Britain’s highest mountains. It also has the largest unbroken stretch of native forests in the country. Making it a dream destination for anyone who loves outdoor adventures.

Our first stop of the day is the historic Glenlivet Distillery.

We invite you to the heart of Scotland's whisky-making country to experience the unique conditions of our remote location and learn how our founder, George Smith, established the first licensed distillery in the Livet Valley against all odds.

Our Distillery Home is steeped in rich history; if you don't have time to join us on one of our experiences, pop in to soak up the atmosphere, enjoy our whiskies by the dram, or even shake things up with a cocktail in our Drawing Room bar.

Next Up...... we end our day with a visit to the classic Dunrobin Castle!

Dunrobin Castle is the most northerly of Scotland’s great houses and the largest in the Northern Highlands with 189 rooms. Dunrobin Castle is also one of Britain’s oldest continuously inhabited houses dating back to the early 1300s, home to the Earls and later, the Dukes of Sutherland.

The Castle, which resembles a French château with its towering conical spires, has seen the architectural influences of Sir Charles Barry, who designed London’s Houses of Parliament, and Scotland’s own Sir Robert Lorimer. The Castle was used as a naval hospital during the First World War and as a boys’ boarding school from 1965 to 1972.

Dunrobin Castle is on the east coast of the Northern Highlands overlooking the Moray Firth, just north of the villages of Golspie and Dornoch (famous for its cathedral and Royal Dornoch Golf Club).

6/10 ~ Our last day in Scotland!

Begin your final full day in Scotland with a visit to the magnificent Stirling Castle, one of the country’s most historically significant sites. Explore its grand halls, royal chambers, and sweeping views from the battlements that once guarded the gateway to the Highlands.

Continue on to see The Kelpies, the world’s largest equine sculptures, located in Falkirk. These stunning 30-meterhigh steel statues celebrate the power and beauty of Scotland’s horse-powered heritage and offer a memorable photo opportunity.

The origins of the kelpie are believed to be rooted in human sacrifices to the water gods however this concept eventually died out and the story of the kelpie was then used to keep children from playing too near to lochs and dangerous rivers. It also encouraged women to be wary of good looking strangers.

They are shape shifters that most often appear as a horse but they can also take human form. Many reports stated that you could spot a Kelpie in human form by looking for water weeds in his/her hair or by looking at it’s feet as they keep their hooves when they transform. This is similar to the concept of Satan minus the horns and tail usually associated with many depictions of the religious entity.
