Welcome back
We hope you have all had a fabulous summer and are settling back into the daily school routine. We would like to say a big welcome to our new parents and children too - we look forward to meeting some of you soon. For those of you who aren’t aware who we are or what we do, we are Hoylandswaine School Alliance (HSA), our school’s PTA. We work with staff, pupils, parents and the local community in enhancing the children’s experience whilst at school. We operate as a registered charity separate to the school through a volunteer committee. At the moment there are only a few of us on the committee and we would love to have some new members join us. You are welcome to join as a committee member or if you don't feel like you can commit that much time you could sign up to be part of our 'HSA Army'. This is a team of amazing parents who volunteer their time or help as and when they can. This could be by helping out at events, shopping for fundraisers or simply promoting what we have going on. If you feel like you could help in any way, please speak to us in the playground or drop us an email at hoylandswaineschoolalliance@gmail.com. Our next meeting will be our AGM to be held on Thursday 10th October at 7.00pm at The Rose and Crown. If you are free, please come along, we would love to meet some new faces. Thank you!
FUNDRAISING from last year
We had a great year of fundraising in 2023-2024 and were able to raise an amazing £7460.70. We hope you enjoyed the variety of events and activities throughout the school year and we hope that we can make this year even better. We would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who helped to make this happen. If you bought a cake, a raffle ticket, attended an event, shared a post on social media, donated a prize for the tombola...you contributed towards the amazing experiences and fantastic resources for the children at Hoylandswaine Primary School. Thank you!
Your fantastic fundraising enabled us to:
- Purchase lots of new sports equipment for the children to use during break and lunch times including new football nets, basketball nets, cricket bats, outdoor games, skipping ropes and loads more (£813.15);
- Refurbish the Class 1 playground by creating new areas for imaginative play, a new planting and growing area, a bug hotel and a fabulous story time area. We were also able to purchase lots of new equipment for the children to use when in their outdoor environment (you £4009.42);
- Provide lots of Christmas treats including a beautiful tree and decorations for the school hall, selection box gifts for the children and crackers to enjoy with Christmas dinner (£358.53);
- Buy hoodies for the Y6 leavers (£348.00);
- Take the whole school to Penistone Paramount Cinema to watch IF (£1061.50);
- Have a festive trip to watch Cinderella at the Lamproom theatre (£1163.36);

HUGE THANKS TO EVERONE!
This years Fundraising Projects
At the end of last term we were entered into the TESCO blue token scheme. With the proceeds from this we are hoping to build an outdoor shelter/seating area in the playground, that the children can use during break times as somewhere to sit and chat, play games and shade from the sun in the warmer months. The Tesco Stronger Starts scheme is still running until the end of September so please remember to add your blue tokens when you shop in Tesco, Penistone as the winning entry will receive £1500.
HSA have met with Miss Redfearn to discuss this years fundraising and we talked about a few future projects, one of these being the cabin in the playground. At the moment this is used by the children during break times as a shelter from the cold or a place to sit and draw and play games. However, it has become tired and in need of some TLC. If you or your children have any ideas about how the space could be improved or know of anyone that could help us, please get in touch. We would like to make this space a more exciting and usable environment for all of the children.
Last year we were able to take the children to Penistone Paramount to watch IF and to the Lamproom Theatre to watch the Christmas panto. Once the new school council is in place, Miss Redfearn will be chatting to the children about any fundraising ideas they have. We would love to host more days like this and we are keen to get the children's ideas on projects that we can raise money for and we will be working with school on this later in the term.
We are also trying to raise funds through the Asda Rewards Cashpot for Schools. Asda have teamed up with ParentKind (a charity that supports school PTA's) to donate millions of pounds to Primary Schools across the country. All you have to do is opt in through the Rewards App and choose Hoylandswaine Primary School. Asda will then donate 5% of your total spend to school. You can shop in store or online until the 30th November and for every person that signs up Asda will also add £1 to the pot. Please help us to build up our cash pot. Even if you just call in for a loaf of bread, everything counts! Thank you!
AUTUMN TERM EVENTS
Inflatables Day
Unfortunately we had to postpone our very popular inflatables day at the end of last term due to the miserable weather. Fortunately the weather looks good for the next week so we have rearranged this for Friday 20th September. The children will have two sessions on the SIX different inflatables that we have coming to school, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, followed by ice pops and ice creams. Children can come in PE kit on this day. Please keep everything crossed that the sun shines for us!
Bingo Night
Please come and join us at our first event of the year on Friday 4th October at 3.30pm. We will have lots of prizes, a tuck shop and a pro Bingo caller! We will have a bar so you can enjoy an alcoholic drink while you play and we will also have tea, coffee and soft drinks available. Christmas Afternoon Tea
In the summer we teamed up with Tiny Tunes, a great little music group in the village, to host the Swainefest Afternoon Tea. This was such a lovely afternoon for all who came so we've decided to do it again and hold a Christmas Afternoon Tea at the village hall on the 24th November. Everyone is invited to a festive afternoon where Santa will also be joining us to chat to his special visitors and hand out Christmas gifts to all the children. There will be two sittings at 1.30pm and 3.30pm. Tickets are £10 for adults and £5 for children or £10 for children to include a gift. If you would like to join us please get in touch. All proceeds raised will be shared between HSA and Hoylandswaine Church.
Christmas Wreath Making Workshop
Following on from the amazing success of last years wreath making workshop, we will be holding our festive event again this Christmas. For those of you that joined last year, we hope you agree that it was a great evening and we really look forward to welcoming you back again this year. For those of you who couldn't come, please join us for an evening of festive creativity and make your own fresh foliage wreath. The event (which is for grown ups only) will take place at Hoylandswaine Primary School on Friday 29th November at 7.30pm. Tickets are £35 per person however this year, we have the option to pay a £5 deposit and pay the rest a couple of weeks before the event. The ticket price will include all materials to make your wreath, a glass of prosecco or mulled wine on arrival and some christmassy nibbles. We will also have a bar available to enjoy a little tipple whilst you create. Places sold out quickly last year so be sure to book your spot soon! Tickets can be purchased at www.pta-events.co.uk/hoylandswaineprimary
Christmas Events
It's been a couple of years since we held a Christmas Fayre so we are looking forward to bringing this event back. We will have all the usual stalls including tombolas, refreshments and a cake stall but you will also be able to find lots of festive games, class stalls and mulled wine and mince pies. And of course we can't forget the main attraction, Santa's Grotto. Our Christmas Fayre will be held on Thursday 12th December and more details will be available closer to the time.
We will also be holding a Christmas raffle and it’s never too early to start organising prizes. If you or anyone you know could donate a prize for our raffle, please get in touch, we would be very grateful.
Christmas card design templates will be making their way to classes next week ready to be designed and completed. This year we are using a different company with more gifts available AND you can make all your orders online so hopefully this should make the process a little smoother. The children love this creative activity so please support this fundraiser by buying a few cards or gifts for family and friends. Thank you so much!
Last year the children loved the panto so much that we have decided to make this a yearly visit. We will be heading to the Lamproom Theatre on Thursday 19th December to watch Sleeping Beauty and we can't wait! Oh no you can't! Oh yes we can!
Don't forget that you can keep up to date with all our events on our X page @HswpHSA as well as our Facebook page @HoylandswaineSchoolAlliance. We will also be posting event information on ClassDojo so hopefully we won't miss anyone.
