As always, a very, very busy week at Birkwood – please keep waiting for me to say an extra quiet week though that may take a while. I hope that everybody has seen some of the exciting activities on offer through our X feeds.

As promised, we have more from the Barnsley in Bloom Awards. Here are our gold award winners. And as mentioned, our very own Miss Greenwood who was recognised as the Barnsley in Bloom Community Champion! An absolutely sensational achievement, really well done. We are proud of our enrichment offer at Birkwood and to be recognised in this way is great. The individual mention and special award for Miss Greenwood is brilliant

Winners! Really well done!

A special evening.

Awesome from Miss Greenwood

Thank you to Mrs. Cocking for supervising our Flu vaccinations. This is provided through the NHS and is an optional service we are pleased to facilitate.

Lightning struck twice at Birkwood as our Year 3 and 4 Handball Team imitated their older peers by being victorious in the tournament last week. A sensational effort! Congratulations to them and Mr. Walton – another home win! I wish the Year 1 & 2 team a great afternoon today.

Year 6 received an arts workshop around kindness and respect to all. Our 100% values have been on show! Great messages delivered in an exciting way.

I was thrilled to welcome an ex-student back to Birkwood who worked in year 5. She is studying with Loughborough University and returned as part of her teaching qualification. A very proud and rewarding experience for everyone here.

Year 3 Obama enjoyed their class trip to Skelton Grange - exploring and learning about the Stone Age. A fantastic day out. Really well done to everybody for their superb behaviour.

Thank you to those who have remembered to do support St. John’s Church and their Harvest Festival The festival will be on Sunday at 9:00 AM. It would be great to see you there.

Our Year 5 Team held a residential meeting for families this week too. The trip to Sherwood Forest will be brilliant. Thank you so much to those involved.

Today we acknowledged World Mental Health Day by treating our staff to an extra break which I’m sure you’ll agree, was well deserved! We look forward to taking part in Children’s Mental Health week in February!

We will be hosting a coffee morning, Friday 24th of October at 9am. Everyone is welcome! Join us for a hot drink and a biscuit in the hall, a great opportunity to meet other parents.

SEND Families - please note the SEND parent/carer group that usually meets on the 1st school Tuesday of every month will be changing to Mondays. For the rest of this year the dates are 10th November and 1st December. The meetings are still at the same time of 1:30pm.

A couple of reminders......

We are delighted to announce that our Year 6 children will have the fantastic opportunity to visit London for a residential trip in the spring. The Governing Body have kindly agreed to subsidise the trip by more than 50%. Please see the letter distributed and/or Arbor for details.

Community sessions delivered by Grass Roots are available. They take place on Darfield Road; the darts has caught my attention! Give it a go.

DISCO tickets are on sale! It's Tuesday 21st October 4:30-6pm. Tickets £3 each and fancy dress is welcome.

Our after-school partner ‘Groots’ have plans for half term, please check the link if you may be interested.

I wish you all a great weekend as always. Enjoy some family time and we shall see everyone on Monday.
