Tritons Breeze By Gyrenes in Midweek Matchup

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd baseball team picked up a win in their last non-conference matchup of the season, defeating the Ave Maria (Fla.) Gyrenes 9-3 at the Turley Athletic Complex on Tuesday afternoon.

Both teams put up a blank first frame, before an RBI single by Kam Gelwick put Eckerd on the board in the second. A double by Luis Garrido in the fourth scored a run for Eckerd to double its score. Dawson Jones scored on a balk in the sixth to give EC the 3-0 lead. The Tritons added four insurance runs in the seventh for a 7-0 favor. Stark led off with a two-run double, before scoring on a wild pitch.

The Gyrenes showed some life in the eighth putting up three runs to stifle Eckerd's shutout attempt. The Tritons added two more insurance runs in the eighth, both unearned, sealing the 9-3 victory.
