KWRE CELEBRATES NATIONAL CLEAN ENERGY WEEK September 23 - September 28

At the crack of dawn, the KWRE team loaded up their electric vehicle—snacks in hand, water bottles packed, and a sense of purpose charged like their battery. This wasn’t your typical road trip. Last week, during National Clean Energy Week 2024, KWRE crossed the diverse energy landscapes of the US, uncovering untapped potential and challenges that shape our renewable future.

From the scorching Southwest to the windswept Midwest, each region revealed stories of opportunity and innovation. KWRE wasn’t just reflecting on past wins but diving into the heart of the renewable energy revolution, powered by resilience and innovation. Buckle up and follow along—KWRE’s journey tackled the toughest renewable energy challenges, paving the way for a cleaner future. Let’s hit the road!

West Region

Overview

Start your (electric) engines! We’re kicking off Clean Energy Week in the West, where solar and wind reign supreme amidst challenges like wildfires and droughts. As we drive along the Pacific Coast Highway, with ocean views on one side and rolling farmlands on the other, KWRE is helping farmers and businesses make the most of the available land for renewable energy.

West Project Spotlight

We’ve made our first pit stop in the Mojave Desert to visit Solar Star, one of the largest solar farms in the US, powering 255,000 homes! KWRE team members faced challenges like wildlife crossings and new electrical codes, but we tackled them head-on, setting the stage for future solar innovations. Grab your shades—the sun’s blazing as we roll on to our next destination!

Southwest Region

Overview

Roll up the windows and enjoy the AC as we hit the open desert in the Southwest! Endless sunshine fuels massive solar farms, but watch out for those sudden downpours—when it rains, it pours! KWRE designs smart hydrology and erosion control systems to keep renewable projects on track, rain or shine.

Southwest Project Spotlight

Our next pit stop? Texas, y’all! The Radian Solar Array powers over 114,000 homes with 900,000 solar panels. The Texas heat didn’t slow us down—KWRE team members expertly mapped out every detail, ensuring smooth operations even under the scorching sun. Let’s fuel up with some Tex-Mex before we hit the road again!

Midwest Region

Overview

Turn up the radio as we cruise into the Midwest, where wide-open skies and strong winds make this region perfect for wind power. KWRE partners with local farmers, integrating wind turbines into their fields while addressing the freezing Midwest winters. Wind turbines spinning, cornfields stretching for miles—this is classic road trip territory!

Midwest Project Spotlight

We’re stopping in Michigan to check out the Noble Thumb I Windfarm, where 46 turbines generate enough energy for 23,000 homes! KWRE team members tackled the region’s cold temperatures with custom designs for frost depth and snow, making sure these turbines spin smoothly all year round. Let's stop to pick some sunflowers on the way down south.

Southeast Region

Overview

Cue the country tunes as we cruise into the Southeast, where bayous, beaches, and marshlands set the scene. It’s not all smooth sailing—KWRE is navigating tricky terrain, from squishy swamps to hurricane zones, ensuring renewable projects are built to last.

Southeast Project Spotlight

Our next pit stop takes us deep into the marshes, where KWRE’s latest solar project is overcoming some of the trickiest terrain yet. With creative problem-solving, we found innovative ways to install piles and keep costs down. Watch out for gators as we make our way north!

Northeast Region

Overview

It’s time for the final leg of our road trip, and we’re heading into the bustling Northeast! With skyscrapers and iconic landmarks zipping by, KWRE is leading the charge in battery storage and vertical energy storage solutions to make the most of limited space. Don’t forget your coffee—we’ve got a lot of ground to cover!

Northeast Project Spotlight

Our last stop is in scenic New Jersey, where the Pilesgrove Solar Project powers 5,100 homes. KWRE designed the site with stormwater management and even tick control in mind, ensuring it’s as efficient as it is environmentally friendly. As we close out the week, it’s time to head home—but the road to clean energy never ends!

As we hit the last mile of our Clean Energy Week Road Trip, we want to give a huge shoutout—THANK YOU for riding shotgun on this wild, green adventure! From the solar-powered highways of the West, through the sunbaked landscapes of the Southwest, across the wind-swept farmlands of the Midwest, through the gator-filled swamps of the Southeast, and up to the vibrant, eco-friendly cities of the Northeast—it’s been a wild, adventurous, and eco-friendly ride!

Through it all, KWRE has proven that renewable energy can overcome any challenge, bringing smart, sustainable power to homes and communities across the country. But the adventure isn’t over yet! Ready for more? Click here to learn more and keep the journey going!
