Parkside Primary News Week ending: Friday 19th September 2025

Welcome to Nursery & Reception families

As the new academic year is now well underway, we would like to take the opportunity to give a big Parkside welcome to all of the new Nursery and Reception children and their families who have joined us this year. All of the children have settled in brilliantly and are getting used to the school routines. We are really proud of them all.

Times Tables Rockstars Day

On Monday 6th October we will be celebrating times tables with a Parkside Rockstars Day. Children can come to school dressed as a rockstar and there will be prizes for best costumes. We will celebrate times tables throughout the day including in class and intra-school times table competition and a reward for the class who play the most minutes at home throughout the week.

Welcome Meetings

Thank you to everyone who was able to come along to the Welcome Meetings. If you were unable to attend, the presentations can be found on the 'Our Classes' pages on our website. Click here: https://www.parkside.eriding.net/our-classes

Fantastic Football!

We are really proud of our Year 6 footballers who took part in a tournament this week. They won their first four matches and then only just lost out to Airmyn by one goal - coming second over all. Miss Oldridge said that they showed brilliant sportsmanship and were a pleasure to take. Well done everyone.

Flu Vaccinations

The Immunisation Team will be in school on Monday 22nd September to administer the flu vaccinations. If you have not yet consented but would like your child to have it, please do so by following the information in this link.

Individual School Photos

On Tuesday 30th September Tempest Photography will be in school to take individual portraits of the children. Please note that on this occasion only individual photos will be taken.

You will be given a unique reference number that will enable you to order your photos online on the Tempest website.

Diary Dates

Please see the calendar at the bottom of the newsletter for diary dates including class assemblies, open afternoons, performances and more.

New school communications - Arbor Parent App

Firstly, we would like to say thank you for your patience as we have transitioned over to using Arbor in our school. We understand that some parents did not receive some text message updates at the beginning of term. We apologise for any confusion caused or information missed; unfortunately, at this side the system was telling us that messages had been delivered which made it difficult to identify the problem.

Moving forward, we will no longer be sending out information via text message and will be using the Arbor parent portal (web based) and parent app (for smartphones) instead. This will be a huge saving to the school budget.

The in-app messages will be the best way for you to keep up to date, so please download the app. Updates will also be sent via email. The parent portal/app will also be the method to inform us of any changes to your contact information.

We have sent out invitations by email. The Parent App can be downloaded from either the Playstore on android phones or the Apple Store on iPhones.

Please make sure you enable 'push notifications' on your device so that you are notified of new messages.

Warm Clothing

Now that autumn is here and the weather has turned much cooler, please ensure that your child comes to school with a jumper and coat. Please label by name.

Reading

Please can we remind all parents of the importance of daily reading for children. Children should be reading at home every day.

The Book Trust has lots help and advice that you may find helpful. The following article talks about the advantages of reading. https://www.booktrust.org.uk/resources/reading-benefits/

School Council

This week saw democracy in action at Parkside as children cast their votes to choose their school council representatives. The results will be announced next week.

Goole Bicentennial

We are excited to be one of the nine schools involved with designing a mural to celebrate the Goole Bicentennial. The mural will be displayed in Goole Station and hopes to be a celebration of Goole’s local history, people, places, dialect and industry, and intends to inspire the younger generations and restore in them a sense of pride of place.

We have been chosen to create a design for a panel of the mural reflecting Modern Goole from 2001 - 2026. Today, a representative from Dream Heritage came in to tell the children all about the project. Over the next two weeks, the children will be creating their designs to be entered into a competition. We can't wait to see the results!

  • To use ParentPay, parents should visit https://www.parentpay.com/ from a mobile phone or computer
  • After logging in, parents can save a shortcut onto their phone’s home screen

Headteacher's Award

A huge well done to Leighton in Year 3 who has received a headteacher's award for outstanding effort with tasks.

Spotlight on Attendance 🔦

The school year has started with two weeks of attendance at 96.1%. See below for the highest attending classes. Well done to 3GW for starting the year with 100%!

Here are some reminder of how to support your child:

  • Do not take holidays in term time (see here for Penalty Notice information)
  • Make appointments outside of school hours
  • Use the "When is to ill to ill" guidance when considering keeping your child off school (click here to view)
  • Arrive on time each day. School gates open at 8.40 with registers closing at 8.55am
  • Reach out to school Via Mrs Daine or Mrs Greenley for support around school attendance including Emotional Based School Avoidance
Absence from school not only equates to lost learning but also missing out on other benefits to a child's wellbeing and wider development.
