"No body never mind, 002, premiered in 2005, is part of the no body never mind project, which consists of three pieces. Deals with the themes of body/mind, exterior/interior, emotion/feeling, self/the other.
The duo's emblematic play, in which the original performers were the authors Ana Borralho & João Galante, now in a new 2023 version in the bodies of Ary Zara and Izabel Nejur.
Throughout the performance, two naked people lick their bodies in order to glue gold leaf to them. This is a way of immortalising a body that will die. Since saliva isn't the best glue for gold leaves, they will constantly fall off after a while, making this work infinite and absurd. Almost like a Möbius strip.
Body Never Mind, 002 is inspired by the tradition of attaching gold leaves to Buddha statues in Asian countries.
The lights of the performance, like a sunrise or sunset, move very slowly from dark to light and back to dark (it takes 30 minutes to reach maximum light and 30 minutes to get dark again).
The piece lasts one hour. Spectators are free to move around, enter, leave or lie down in the space for the all duration of the piece.
Borralho & Galante studied visual arts but have stood out above all for their performative work and scenic creations, in transdisciplinary projects that explore hybrid forms and different practices.
ARY ZARA (1986, Lisbon) is a trans non-binary multidisciplinary artist. He premiered his first short film at Indie Lisboa 2022, An Avocado Pit, and has won awards at festivals such as the BFI, AFI Fest, Clermont-Ferrand, and others. He is the creative director of Queer Art Lab - a platform that supports LGBTQI+ artists and the community. He is an activist, performing solo and with Isaac dos Santos in T Guys Cuddle Too. More recently, he joined the BRABA platform as a performer.
IZABEL NEJUR (1981, Rio Branco - Acre, Brazil) travelled from Brazil to Portugal in 2018. As a performer, they use their fluidity as the main tool in their multidisciplinary work. Inquisitiveness is the engine for creation, and intuition is the wisdom for innovation. They had worked in cinema, dance, performance, writing and DIY video art. They has a degree in journalism and postgraduate qualifications in film and dance.
