2024 Year of the Wood Dragon
The Year of 2024 is a Wood Dragon year, which only comes every 60 years, last one was 1964.
Dragon Medicine : The energy of this Wood Dragon year is to be one of creativity, growth, and like a well rooted tree, balance of strength and flexibilty. The Wood element features in Chinese carry the potential of developmental growth, harmony and has a natural gift of uniting people. Dragons are Dreamers and Protectors.
All the traits of Dragon in a Wood Dragon year bode favourably to fine tune our capacity to be change agents with soul purpose as we cross the bridge between the post pandemic years into the Age Aquarius, which we will be firmly established in by the end of this year.

Origin Story of "The Practice"
'The Practice', Teacher’s Practice, Tigress Heart, Tadasana to Savasana, and now The Dragon Practice, are all names that morphed out of the 'Eye of the Tiger' teacher's yoga practice. It was an ambitious hatha yoga practice for yoga lovers. Immediately smitten after my first dive into it in early 2000’s, I was hooked. I didn't think twice about the 1:15 minute drive to class.
The original name, the Eye of the Tiger, evolved from the then popular classic movie "Rocky". It was a "Teacher's Practice" and was originally a five hour practice including every pose on the syllabus, by invitation, for teachers and experienced yoga practitioners.
“Why do we need to have a physical yoga practice?” I once asked my teacher.
He pinched my arm and said, “to heal, to re-member yourself and Awaken Intelligent Love, to build your body a strong and resilient vessel to hold more Love (Shakti) to be in service to the world!" At that moment, I realised it was so much more than the 'poses' or 'samadhi'.
My personal origin story and journey with 'The Practice' is this.......... Once upon a time.....just after the harrowing uncertainty post 9-11, one of my teachers recommended I start going to The Practice. I started attending a three hour bi-weekly ‘Eye of the Tiger’ practice in Scottsdale, Arizona hosted by the now iconic yogini, Desireé Rumbaugh. One three hour practice was only half the entire Eye of the Tiger and Des hosted those practices twice a week for eleven years. It was legendary, she was legendary!
In those early noughts many of the Phoenix area teachers and strong yoga practitioners would roll in when we could devote an afternoon to our own practice. Des would lead the practice and together for those few hours, we would dive into our practice leaving the uncertainty of the world and our personal issues outside, discharging the built up anxiety being flooded into our lives by the fear mongers.
Every week we'd show up when we could, sometimes twice a week and rock out three hours in a supported space with like hearted friends, remembering ourselves, our purpose and the inherent beauty of life! It was great fun, we played music, practiced, told stories, we learned so much from each other and went so deep on every level. If you didn't have a big wild heart when you started, you certainly did by the end.
Down in Tucson, Darren Rhodes and Bruce Bowditch also had been hosting the Practice on Saturday afternoons at Yoga Oasis. I’d drive 2 1/2 hours to practice in Tucson for three hours and then drive back to Cave Creek. Once I started traveling internationally for yoga in 2006, I started leading the Practice in the cities I taught in. Eventually I moved to Tucson and continued going to the Practice until the late 2000/teens when it was discontinued. Those were fantastic days and I am still connected with the people who I practiced with.
ALL Dragons are Female
These are the new days. We are facing a New World, filled with uncertain possibility! (Grace)
My vision is to rotate the Practice around yoga spaces in Ireland (and elsewhere!) once a month, (or twice!) and lead it, teach it to other teachers, and share everything I can with those who want to go deeper into the collaborative Heart of Love, Alignment and Community through the practice of Anusara yoga.
The Practice, the Dragon Mothers, the Eye of the Tiger, or the Tigress Heart, whatever it is called, is a devotional physical practice in service of sharing the Love of Yoga, and living our yoga into the world.
Your Dragon Love is needed to nurture in the new world, a planet anchored in Love, sustainable Peace and in healthy balance for all beings everywhere.
We would love to have you join us!
