German cities offer diverse and enriching educational experiences
Berlin
In Berlin, explore iconic historical sites like the Brandenburg Gate and remains of the Berlin Wall, which offers insights into German identity and unity. Engage with powerful historical narratives while visiting the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe and the Reichstag, where the German national parliament is seated. Participate in unique educational opportunities, such as learning more about the history of Europe’s largest university hospital in the Charité Museum of Medical History, reflecting on how historical memory is curated for both education and tourism, and taking a tour of Berlin’s Technical University campus.
Hamburg
Visit Hamburg, Germany’s second-largest city and one of Germany’s wealthiest cities. The port of Hamburg is the third-busiest harbor in Europe making it an important economic aspect of the city. The port functions as both a commercial powerhouse and a growing site for maritime tourism, including harbor boat tours, cruise terminals, and waterfront redevelopment. Nicknamed the “Gateway to the World,” Hamburg is still one of the largest exporters of coffee, cocoa, and tea, and handles textile imports from Middle Eastern countries before shipping them onwards. The Speicherstadt is the largest warehouse district in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Würzburg
See Würzburg, a city in Germany shaped by architectural masterpieces from various eras, including the Würzburg Residence, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city is also the center of the Franconian Wine Region, famous for its wine in round bottles. Würzburg offers a unique lens on culinary tourism, an area in which the local university and our Study Abroad partner, the Technical University of Applied Sciences (THWS), specializes.
Rothenburg ob der Tauber
Visit Rothenburg, Germany, and explore architectural designs that transport visitors back in time. The city is a perfectly preserved medieval city with colorful half-timbered houses and cobblestone streets. This preservation fosters a sense of identity and continuity, which can enhance community well-being and mental health, as well as contributing to the local economy and maintaining resident's quality of life.
