Open Day - The Secret is Out!!
Open Day was a huge success with a sell out crowd in attendance.

Every year we visit all our local feeder Primary Schools to share what makes SSHS special! Our amazing Year 11 Prefects—Aleena, Abby, and Lianne—along with Ms Neilsen visited Daceyville Public School recently. They spoke with parents about the fantastic opportunities at our school and encouraged everyone to come along to our Open Day.
Year 7 Meet the Teacher Night and Recognition of Year 2024 High Achievers
Last week Year 7 parents had a chance to informally meet their child’s teacher and to meet other parents as they start their six year educational journey at SSHS. The occasion was also a chance to recognise a few of our Year 12 students from 2024. Year 7 parents got a chance to get tips from our Dux David and many other High Achievers who obtained outstanding results.
Congratulations to our 2024 High Achievers for your outstanding HSC results and the reason the school improved over 100 places on the SMH School rankings based on Band 6’s (over 90). We wish you every success with University and your future endeavours.
It was great to hear their stories of SSHS and what their next learning journey will be.
Congratulations to Our New SRC Leadership Group! Aryan, Annabelle, Lexi and Shana.
A huge congratulations to our newly appointed Student Representative Council (SRC) Leadership Group! Your commitment to representing your peers, leading initiatives, and making a positive impact on our school community is truly commendable.

HSC Encore Performances
Our Stage 6 Music students went to Encore at the Opera House on Monday night to hear the top HSC performances from the 2024 HSC
Amazing things are happening in our Senior Music class!
Our talented students have been hard at work, exploring new genres, perfecting their performances, and composing their own incredible pieces. From passionate solos to dynamic group ensembles, their creativity and dedication are shining through every note!
A huge shoutout to our budding musicians for their hard work and enthusiasm. We can’t wait to see (and hear!) what they accomplish next!
Happy International Women’s Day!
At SSHS, we are always in awe of the tenacity and drive our young women show.
To celebrate International Women’s Day a breakfast was held today for all female students and teachers.
The girls got to have a lovely breakfast organised by Ms Maddocks and reflect on the importance of trying, tenacity and trusting yourself in the uneasiness of life on being resilient to become strong, successful females.

The Lovely and the Lost by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
A teen girl and her friends must uncover long-buried secrets to save a missing girl's life in this dark and twisty standalone YA mystery. What follows is not only an incredible search and rescue effort, but a journey into family history, hidden secrets and mystery that keep the reader guessing until the end.
A Good Kind of Trouble by Brooke Blurton and Melanie Saward
A brilliantly warm-hearted new series from Brooke Blurton and Melanie Saward, full of high school longing, friendship, footy matches, and dreams to change the world! These teens are what the world need more of. People that are not afraid to speak up against racism, homophobia and bigotry, and are prepared to face bullies and small-minded people head on. This book is an uplifting and inspiring read.
The Worst Perfect Moment by Shivaun Plozza
This is an often humorous, sometimes heart-wrenching look at what truly makes us happy and searching for those little moments that give us this happiness. It is set in an interesting version of heaven where Tegan plays a role in changing some stuffy rules to make it a better place. I mean heaven should be perfect, shouldn’t it? A thought provoking and engrossing read.
Popcorn by Rob Harrell
This is a wonderful story about a difficult subject. Andrew doesn’t hide his anxiety from himself (he is the narrator of the story) but he does try to keep it hidden from everyone else. Told with lots of humour and cartoons, this is a fantastic book with lots of coping strategies scattered throughout. It also has themes of the importance of family and friends, and accepting help when you need it.
Save Our Forest! By Nora Dasnes and translated by Lise Laerdal Bryn
This book contains an important message of the importance of preserving our wild habitats, particularly forests, for the benefit of all of humanity. It is an easy-to-read graphic novel that although set in Norway, will resonate with readers everywhere.

Opportunity News
Student Ambassador Training Day 2025
Student Ambassador training for 2025 began last week where students discovered what it means to be a leader. They also studied what their role in the Opportunity Program will entail. Empathy, compassion, organisational skills, responsibility, fairness, integrity, the importance of having a growth mindset and good communication were some of the leadership requirements that were needed to be adopted by all good leaders. They learnt about setting goals and how to best work with and through others. Learning from one another is key in this role is key - our thanks to Ms Neilsen and Ms Miller for sharing their insights on what good leadership entails as they shared experiences of their own leadership journey to where they are today. It was a very positive and growth filled day.

Dress for Work
Dress A student experience @ Metro Assist
"I, along with 9 of my classmates and friends, went on an excursion to Dress for Work in Bankstown to get suited up and ready for any occasion. When we got there, we started trying on different suits 3 people at a time, slowly working through the group. I was lucky enough to be the first person to try a suit that fit me perfectly, both in size and style. As more of us found suits we liked, we started taking photos. Once we all found our ideal suits, we took photos and admired everyone's different styles. For many of us, it was our first time wearing suits, exploring a new fashion we'd never tried before. Thank you Ms Stell for organising the event and thank you Mr Vincent for accompanying us on the excursion. And finally, thank you Dress for Work for the opportunity and for letting us keep the suits!" We all look forward to wearing our suits to a possible job interview in the future.

Open Day Winners
We are thrilled to announce the winners of two exciting open-day challenges:
• Pumpkin Weight Competition: A huge congratulations to Natalie from Woollahra Public School, whose educated guess of 3.8kg came incredibly close to the actual weight of the pumpkin, which was 3.83kg. Well done, Natalie!
• Lowest Positive Number Competition: Congratulations to Aleira from Banksmeadow Public School, who correctly selected the number ‘3’ in this fun challenge.
Both Natalie and Aleira have won a brand-new Casio Scientific Calculator! We will be reaching out to you shortly to arrange for you to collect your well-deserved prize.
π Day
March 14th is Pi Day! It's also known as the International day of Mathematics. A fun annual event dedicated to the mathematical constant pi, which is represented by the Greek letter 'π'. Pi is defined as the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter, approximately equal to 3.14159.
Did you know that pi is an irrational number, meaning it cannot be expressed as a simple fraction, and its decimal representation goes on infinitely without repeating? The current world record for reciting the most decimal places of pi from memory is 70,000 digits, achieved by Suresh Kumar Sharma in 2015. The theme for 2025 is Mathematics, Art and Creativity. We invite everyone to celebrate mathematics, art, and creativity, showcasing the harmony of logic and imagination, where numbers dance with colours, equations sculpt beauty, and ideas transcend boundaries to inspire and innovate. Creativity unites mathematics and art, fields that may seem separate but were originally intertwined, both seeking to reveal the beauty of the universe. The SSHS Mathematics faculty will be hosting some class and school activities. Students, listen to the homeroom announcements for more details.

On February 26th, our Year 11 and 12 Entertainment Industry students had the exciting opportunity to attend a live filming of the “The Voice” Blind Auditions at Carriageworks with Mr Benson.

Be on the lookout for our students when the blind auditions air later this year!
