Assistant Headteacher's Message
Dear friends and family of SJV,
This time of year can present with many challenges for our young people as they begin to worry about transitioning into new classes and the long time away from school over the summer break. Our dedicated staff team continually support our pupils with this. Before the end of the summer term pupils will receive their new visual timetable for September and will have an opportunity to be in their new classes next Friday 19th July. On this day we will also welcome into school new pupils who will begin their SJV journey on September 3rd, when the autumn term begins.
The penultimate week has been a busy one with lots of our usual offsite activities taking place. Mr Cassidy, Mrs Griffin and Mr Foden also had the pleasure of taking the winners of our RNLI lifeboat art competition on an exciting visit to Anglesey, where the pupils got to experience a boat ride around Puffin Island and a visit the Anglesey Lifeboat Centre. What an amazing experience!
On Friday we had our annual sports day at Longford Park; our young people experienced a range of different sports experiences including Disc golf and Softball. Thank you to Mr Whelan for organising a great event.
Our School’s Governing Body met for the final time this year and we reflected on the journey we have taken as a school, and the wonderful progress made by our school community. The governors have asked me to pass on our heartfelt thanks for your continued support, as we all work together to provide our young people with the best opportunities possible.
As we look towards the final week please see our timetable of events below:

Our Catholic School
Our spiritual focus in SJV this week that describes presence of God on Earth amongst us is:
‘Let us welcome the light of God into our hearts’
- Pope Francis
Within our Catholic school, Class 7 enjoyed the final retreat of the year, led as always by our wonderful Chaplain Father Nick. I was very privileged to have attended with them and it was a wonderful and reflective end to the year together.
During RE lessons this week, we have been looking at artefacts in some of our world religions. We have examined a box of different items linked to Hinduism, Islam and Sikhism and tried to decide what their role and function might be. Next week we are going to research these items to see if we were right!
This week's Wednesday Word is "Listening''.

Poetry Corner
As Ollie Watkins scored an amazing 90th minute goal against the Netherlands to keep England's Euro hopes alive last night, we thought it would be fitting to celebrate with this wonderful football poem by Brian Bilston. We are no strangers to football poetry here at SJV, working in collaboration with the National Football Museum to run inspiring creative writing workshops about unity and togetherness in the modern game of football. We hope to see some poetry on the pitch in Sunday's final. Come on England!
'Our very own young poet, Joe in Class 5, has taken inspiration from the great Brian Bilston and written his own version of the Football is... Poem. Fantastic and inspiring work Joe, well done!'
