Living Healthy With Diabetes

The Person County Cooperative Extension Service and the Person County Health Department will be hosting the Living Healthy with Diabetes program. It is a FREE 6 week program developed by the Self Management Resource Center that will help you manage symptoms including fatigue and depression, improve your communication skills, use relaxation techniques, eat healthy, use medication effectively, monitor your blood sugar, and set goals. This program will be held on Tuesdays, February 4 – March 11, 2025 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m at Person County Office Building at 304 South Morgan Street in Roxboro.

Join us on Tuesday, February 11, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. for our monthly Lunch N' Learn on "Healthy Aging and Remembering It". We will provide information on normal aging as it relates to mental processes of the brain, how to reduce the risk of mental decline as you age, and help you identify foods that can help reduce the risk of mental decline.

The best way to protect against questionable health products and services is to be an informed consumer. Be aware of the common claims and themes that accompany nutrition misinformation. Join us on Tuesday, February 18 for this workshop on Food Labels Myths and Facts to know what to look for and to know what those labels really mean.

Celebrate Heart Health Month this February. We will discuss heart health, heart disease, eating healthy, watching your sodium and cholesterol, and so much more. Join us at one of these workshops.

Friday, February 21 at 3:00pm at the South Granville Public Library 1550S Campus Dr. Creedmoor

Tuesday, February 25 at 10:45am at the Person County Senior Center 87 Semora Rd.

Rescheduled "Winter Blues" Workshop

The “Winter Blues” effect both individuals and those around them. Learn more about this seasonal affliction and how to manage it. Many people start to feel down when the days get shorter and these mood changes can become serious affecting how you feel, think, and handle daily activities. Join us for this workshop at the Granville County Senior Center in Oxford on Monday, February 24, 2025 at 10:45 a.m.

What's Coming Up??

We all have busy lives and sometimes we don't make the best choices. But, having little time does not mean you need to resort to fast food. Join us on Monday, March 10, 2025 at 10:45am for this workshop to find a "Substitute for Fast Food". We will talk about meal planning, convenience foods, building a healthy meal, making action plans, and preventing chronic illnesses through exercise and healthy eating.

We like to use canning jars for everything and one of the best way to use canning jars, other than for canning, is to pack a salad for a lunch or dinner time treat. Because the salads maintain a good quality for up to four days, you can prepare salads ahead of time. Join us on Tuesday, March 11 at 12:00pm at the Person County Extension Office for our monthly Lunch N' Learn on "Salad in a Jar" $5 registration fee is due March 7.
