CTE Newsletter Semester recap

CTSO Recap given by CTSO Officer Jesse Hernandez.

Our CTSO (Career and Technical Student Organization) at Tahquitz High School participated actively in a number of events this semester that demonstrated school pride, leadership, and community involvement. One of the highlights was the CTSO Officer/Disneyland Leadership trip, where student leaders learned a lot about cooperation and leadership. In order to spread holiday fun, we also hosted a Tech Day, decorated a bus for the Winter Parade, and visited Senior Centers. We celebrated the accomplishments of CTE students by serving them pizza and Gatorade during the CTE/CTSO event. Furthermore, our participation in the Union Meeting with Scott brought home the value of teamwork. We demonstrated our inventiveness and commitment to the school and community by hosting fun booths with carnival games, handcrafted trees, and a digital media picture booth at the Winter Carnival.

Construction

Students learned basic hand tools and were able to complete 200 Christmas trees for the annual winter carnival. Soraya Leon took charge of the project and even brought Mickey D's for her crew while working till 8:30pm for close 2 weeks

Sports Medicine

Level 1 students gained essential skills by learning how to measure and monitor vital signs (including blood pressure, respiratory rate, and pulse), designing customized meal plans, and developing a stronger understanding of the human anatomy and physiology.

Level 2 students created professional resumes and career portfolios, honed their skills in evaluating and treating lower leg injuries, and mastered techniques such as taping and bracing for the ankle, knee, and lower leg.

Entrepreneurship

Year 1's focused on learning the various business departments function and why each is important to overall success of the business. There was also a large focus on sales & marketing. For fun production activity, students worked with 3D pens to create unique creative items, festive designs and ornaments. "One student even made several pieces of 3D art that he sold.....true entrepreneurship" - Mr. Wells

Year 2's focused on problem resolution and process mapping. They learned documentation techniques and why documentation is critical for business and financial success. Additionally, they worked on ongoing stock analysis and portfolio management projects. They also started learning how to use 3D printers by designing & printing Christmas ornaments. "Many students once they got the hang of it made multiple prints with one student making character figures that they sold to friends.....true entrepreneurship. This will work into our product lessons when we return." - Mr. Wells

Theater Tech

In 1st semester, the students learned about elements of safety for the stage and in the workplace, the basics in set design, costume design, and various elements of color theory and how they apply to both staging and costuming. The culminating assignment was to build a scale model of a set from the play, Almost, Maine. This semester will have the students learning about career exploration, how to apply for a job (to include the application process, resumes and cover letters, and the job interview), how to design for stage lighting and sound, and how to effectively stage manage a production.

Digital Media

Digital Media - Last semester Digital Media students were fully immersed in acquisition of technical photographic skills such as; shutter speed and aperture. Students were able to use these skills to complete projects and use their new skills intentionally. Here are some examples of students' work.

Digital Media II - Digital Media II students had a busy 1st semester. These students participated in the Hemet Film Festival and had their short films played at the Historic Hemet Theater among other Filmmakers. These students also began learning and producing our updated version of TitanTV.
