"We're out of this world and out of brain cells..."

Space Kiddettes invite you to jump around with them to the galaxy's hottest new wave jams. The winners of OutSmart Magazine's 2022 Gayest and Greatest Local Band this space-brained duo are your one-stop-shop for a slice of pop magic and a heaping helping of queerness. Hailing from Houston, Texas (and now residing in Los Angeles) Space Kiddettes describe themselves as “The Space City’s favorite pop delinquents.” Their heavily-layered, high-energy tracks draw inspiration from the absurdist new wave acts of the 80’s mixed with modern genre-bending attitude and sensibility. These influences are most apparent when seeing the Kiddettes’ manic on-stage presence and quirky (but always coordinated) costumes mixed with pop culture sound bytes, theatricality and in-your-face punk delivery wrapped in pop packaging all culminating in the ultimate tribute to being strange. Trent Lira (they/them) and Devin Will (she/her) use pop and alternative music as an introductory glance into the multi-disciplinary universe of their own creation. This includes their weekly podcast, Space Case, in which they discuss the mysteries plaguing their personal lives–conspiracies, cold cases, urban legends, and notable “wait, what?” moments throughout history. Additionally, they frequently host events and perform as part of the collective Abundantly Queer co-founded with Houston artist STOO while also writing, producing, and starring in their own scripted show Domestic Adventures: The Series. Professional accomplishments include performing for Houston’s NPR member station, appearing on Season 16 of America’s Got Talent, and sharing the stage with acts like The Aquadolls, Dorian Electra, Slayyyter, Emergency Tiara, Transviolet, Zoe Briskey and many more. Their new single 8 Bit Lover featuring mixing by Jorge Elbrecht and mastering by Angel Marcloid aka Fire-Toolz is out via Lollipop Records Distribution 9/15/23 and they have more new music coming shortly after ♥

8 Bit Lover

Released 9/15/23

Written and Produced by Space Kiddettes

Mixed by Jorge Elbrecht

Mastered by Angel Marcloid aka Fire-Toolz

Introducing Space Kiddettes' latest single, "8 Bit Lover" – a dynamic fusion of energetic pop melodies and electrifying guitar riffs. This catchy track draws inspiration from classic video games, infusing the spirit of pixelated adventures into the realm of love and attraction lyrically juxtaposing the journey of falling in love, or perhaps even lust, with the mechanics of a video game. As the listener dives into the song, they'll be met with clever analogies and playful comparisons that vividly portray the exhilarating experience of navigating the complexities of a new romantic connection. "8 Bit Lover" is a delightful musical escapade that combines nostalgia, high-octane pop, and a touch of whimsical romance, inviting all to join Space Kiddettes and "play" along.

"In a world filled with minimalistic aesthetics and narrow sonic visions, queer pop duo Space Kiddettes have always veered for a more authentic, less refined, and neon-colored approach. Their latest single, “8-Bit Lover” is the perfect showcase for their obsession with ’80s pop and rogue synths. Over thrashing guitar, Devin Will and Trent Lira sing about an electronic and glitchy romance, harnessing a Devo-esque authority." - Queerty

Dead To Me

Released 10/27/21

Written and Produced by Space Kiddettes

Mixed by Jorge Elbrecht

Mastered by Briana Wolf

The inspiration for Dead to Me came from the emotional turbulence of 2020. It shook everyone’s foundations, and in doing so showed us which relationships we really value and which ones need to be cut off at the root. A danceable ode to scorn...

"an emotional and evocative bop. From its opening notes, the track sounds like Devo on a sweat-drenched, late-night dance floor as vocalists Trent Lira and Devin Will begin to spill on a toxic romance. However, it's the sugary sweet-sounding chorus and its deceptively severe lyrics that stick long past the first listen" - MTV Bop Shop

"When it comes to a (insert gender identity here) scorned, hell hath no fury like Houston's hottest queer pop duo Space Kiddettes. "Dead To Me" is "danceable ode to scorn," with kiss-off lyrics and a hook you can sing while breakin' dishes." - Houston Citybook

DEADSPACE

Released 11/22/19

Written and Produced by Space Kiddettes

Mixed and Mastered by John Allen Stephens at Third Coast Recording Studio

On this release, you'll find collaborations queer and female indetifying artists who have made a name for themselves in their respective styles and sounds. Tee Vee brings her ethereal and dream-pop sound to the playful and bright "Speak Out," Hank Honey's swaggering and sexy production blends with wavy synths and rhythmic vocals on "CYCLE," biting lyricism and STOO's cheeky bars collide on the energetic electro-pop anthem "P.S.A," and the Gulf-Coast soul of Kam Franklin meets Space City synth-pop in the dance-floor ready track "Shine a Light." These collaborations are intertwined with Space Kiddettes' fan favorites like "Burn Down the Disco" and "Scary Boy" plus brand new songs "Buggin" and "Don't Call Me." These tracks are all book ended with a dark tech-house remix of "Square" (the opening track from Domestic Adventures) by Houston underground DJ and producer Kirrrby.

"Space Kiddettes just took a big step forward in their sonic evolution[...] Recalling British Hi-NRG and new wave acts like Frankie Goes to Hollywood and Bronski Beat, the production work is solid and exciting. The highlight comes via "Shine a Light," featuring The Suffers' frontwoman Kam Franklin, a dancefloor banger straight from 1985 London. Highly recommended." - Houston Culturemap

"Synth-pop duo Space Kiddettes captures the quirky energy of its live shows on “Deadspace.” It’s their best yet..." - Houston Chronicle

Domestic Adventures E.P.

Released: 11/2/18

Written and Produced by Space Kiddettes

Mixed and Mastered by John Allen Stephens at Third Coast Recording Studio

In the first expedition into the Space Kiddettes universe, Domestic Adventures finds the duo questioning the ordinary and what truly makes someone "extraordinary." Is life predetermined or do have a chance to change the course set out for us? Is domesticity the goal or an added bonus to an otherwise fulfilling life? From the opening track "Square" to the final track "Crash and Burn," Space Kiddettes take the audience on a hyperactive and whirling journey of dance and synth-pop tambours to explore these aforementioned feelings while highlighting some tried and true sonic and thematic pop staples with a twisted perspective.

"An artistic leap forward in every conceivable way, from songwriting to performance to production to just straight up confidence. "Square", "Plain", and "OutRun" are the real stars, from the Coyote Bloodbath spoken word section bleeding into the punk-style bridge in "Square", to the downtrodden verses leading into cascading synth choruses in "Plain" and pulsing laser leads in "OutRun"- Under the Counter Tapes

"Their playful banter extends into Space Kiddettes’ candy-coated yet angsty synth-pop tunes. 'Domestic Adventures' is a confetti-splattered delight that delves into meaty material through their lyrics, often sung in unison on the album. The anxiety-ridden lyrics of the band’s standout track, “Low Impact Aerobics" is a sentiment to which many millennials can relate." - Houston Citybook

"With Domestic Adventures, Space Kiddettes cultivate an environment that evokes surrealist 90’s cyber sci-fi. The combination of synth, chiptunes, and vocals collaborate to give the album that cheesy but still endearing aesthetic. They play around with a lot of different facets of it too, and I found myself pleasantly surprised by their artistic choices more than once"- The Family Reviews

on “P.S.A.” - "...explores the propaganda and fear-mongering tactics perpetuated by public service announcements from the 80s and 90s. Lyrics from the track discuss how these messages are reflected in today’s day and age through hateful rhetoric and divisive actions." - Outsmart Magazine
On "PROCESS Ü"-"Catchy, energetic, and synth driven, PROCESS U takes what you know about modern electro-pop and adds notes from acts like Yazoo and The Human League" - HOUSTON PRESS
on "Low Impact Aerobics" -"The song has an uplifting, crystalline-synth sound that reminds the listener of artists such as Devo, Duran Duran, and Erasure. An updated spin on Jane Fonda, at-home workout VHS tapes, the music video captures the campy, inspirational smiles, “blood, sweat, and tears” that can be seen in Netflix’s Original Series GLOW...” - About Magazine
On "PLain"-"This song exemplifies the witty, tongue-in-cheek humor surrounding the celebration of suburban monotony that defines the Space Kiddettes’ E.P. 'Domestic Adventures.' Deep synth beats glue together the cry-out lines and celestial choruses. It makes you want to purse your lips, shimmy your shoulders, and own the fact that you drive a sedan and can’t remember your spouse’s name." - Spectrum South

LIVE SHOWS

In a live performance, Space Kiddettes engage the audience with theatrical prowess and awareness, energetic vocals and musicianship, and a carefree yet thought provoking attitude. Closed Captioned magazine states "There’s plenty of pop music coming out daily, most of which is from acts that are forgettable. When you see electro-pop duo Space Kiddettes perform in their matching jumpers, their performances are the kind that you won’t soon forget. With more energy than some punk bands, the two piece really sets themselves apart from what most electronic artists are doing today."
