the sun is out and the kids are home: it's diy season!
DIY activities promote creativity, problem-solving skills, and creativity in our children. Especially because it limits screen time and overall time in the house. The natural outdoors are healthy for your kids! It helps develop motor skills, with some projects requiring skillful hand-eye coordination. Your kids feel a sense of accomplishment. To help with the social pressures our kids face today, it reduces stress and anxiety, promoting natural, positive mental health. And it’s a fun way to bond with the family!
I'm Tim, the owner of Construction Copywriting LLC. I grew up with family traditions and family-first values. I smile cheek to cheek since my summers are now filled with watching my nieces and nephews grow, so I'd be remiss not to share the fun! I've compiled a few ideas to get your creative juices flowing. And if any of these ideas tickle your fancy, I've attached a How-To guide so you can get right to family fun time!
lemonade stand
when life gives you lemons...
What’s a better slice of Americana for your children than a lemonade stand? Lemonade stands are fantastic for the whole family. You have the parents recruiting angel investors, ordering all the inventory, and the final decision of all things creative rests with the kids. Now THAT, is a lucrative family business! A lemonade stand teaches our kids the importance of goal setting, of following through, and sharing with the community.
Herb Planter Wagon
Dads, I know you have a vintage wagon somewhere!
An activity I'm excited to try with my nephew is building our own herb planter. My sister loves gardening, and green thumbs know that a functioning garden is no playpen. Building a herb planter (Parents–I trust you know the power tool steps are for you and you only) is an amazing catalyst for your children’s imagination. Guide them on what grows best, but let them choose. Guide them on a theme for the wagon, but let them paint whatever their heart desires. Give them a reason to go outside and immerse themselves in their art.
Bug observation box
It's harmless, I asked teachers!
Perfect for STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) learning! Starting with a cardboard box and some plastic mesh (from anything you can find) as the observation windows, you have the perfect lab to observe the fascinating behaviors of nature’s safe and friendly bugs. Grab a magnifying glass and count all the different colors and shapes such a small insect body has. Grab a book and encourage your children to make their own bug book!
