INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW
The Office of International Collaborations (OIC) promotes international experiences for faculty and students, with a mission to provide a diverse and inclusive campus environment. In the fall of 2024, I secured an opportunity with the OIC, chosen for my experience in journalism through my major and extracurricular activities. My primary task was researching information for their upcoming podcast, "All Things International," which included sourcing equipment and formulating a content schedule. I was later assigned to create the office's first newsletter, working closely with Dr. Patricia Schiaffini-Vedani and Scott Berlin. Throughout this process, I was responsible for conducting interviews and ensuring the newsletter was completed on time. Additionally, I participated in a table during International Week, where I connected with students to promote and explore international scholarship opportunities. This internship provided valuable hands-on experience in research and digital content creation, allowing me to work closely with faculty, staff, and students to produce engaging materials.
These flyers were used to educate and persuade students to look into specific programs that they can attend. I had full creative control over all the flyers and researched what students would most likely want to know. This was my first experience with Adobe Express so I learned how to use it thoroughly with each flyer. This project also allowed me to learn how to navigate a project with minimal direction given; this allowed me to flourish.
I am honored to have been a part of starting up OIC's newsletter. I worked with Dr. Patricia Schiaffini-Vedani and Scott Berlin to ensure that I had all the information that the office wanted to convey for the month. Fall 2024 I was brand new to creating newsletters and hoped straight in with the ODU brand guide. Following the ODU brand guide is important in order to make everything look crisp and professional. I learned that all companies have brand guides that must be followed, things like font, color, pictures, and much more. While Spring 2025 I was able to be more creative and became efficient at displaying information. Doing interviews and extracting information and creating articles was the prime of creating these newsletters.
