COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT
Minimizing Risk and Damage from High Winds
The January 7 windstorm caused significant damage and power outages throughout Temple City, highlighting the importance of preparation. The Community Development Department encourages residents to take proactive steps to inspect their properties to reduce risks from future high winds.
Wind Protection Tips:
- Check fences to ensure posts are well-anchored and boards are secure
- Trim tree branches at least 10 feet from your home
- Inspect your roof for loose or missing tiles
- Secure outdoor furniture and other loose items can also help prevent damage
Prepare for Rain:
With rain in the forecast next week, now is the time to check gutters for blockages. Clogged gutters can lead to extensive water damage, including roof leaks, mold growth, and foundation issues.
Prevent Power Surge Damage:
To protect against power surges when electricity is restored, use surge protectors, especially outlets with built-in surge protection for major appliances. Taking these preventative steps can help safeguard your home and community. Be prepared and stay safe!
