Wayne State Update NEWS FROM MIDTOWN FOR HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE COUNSELORS.

Greetings from Wayne State University!

As a new school year begins, I want to thank you for the unwavering dedication you show your students during the college admission and enrollment process. Your commitment to guiding them through this pivotal stage is truly commendable, and we at Wayne State University are grateful for your partnership.

We recognize the unique challenges you and your students faced during the last admission cycle, particularly with updates to the FAFSA and delays that impacted timelines and created uncertainty. Navigating these changes alongside your students undoubtedly added complexity to an already demanding role, and I want to acknowledge the hard work and resilience you have demonstrated throughout this period.

To help you stay informed, I am pleased to share our fall newsletter. In this edition, you’ll find details on new academic programs like the entrepreneurship and innovation minor; information on the College to Career initiative, which seeks to empower every student with experiential learning opportunities; key dates and events to remember, like WSU’s Fall Open House Sept. 21; and insight on the Michigan Assured Admission Pact (MAAP), which reduces uncertainty in the college admission process and offers a transparent pathway to college for high school students with a cumulative 3.0 GPA or above. Our goal is to remove as many barriers as possible to provide equitable access to a college education. We are excited to support your students as they take their next steps in life and learning.

Your role as a high school counselor is more critical than ever, and Wayne State is eager to provide you with the resources you need. Should you have any questions or require additional assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our admissions team — we are here to help in any way we can.

Thanks again for your dedication to your students and for being an invaluable partner to Wayne State University. Together, we can ensure that each student has the opportunity to achieve their educational goals.

I hope to see many of you at the Promoting the Publics Conference Sept. 13 — and in the meantime, I am wishing you a successful and smooth school year ahead!

The Michigan Assured Admission Pact (MAAP) is a collaborative effort among the state’s public universities to increase awareness of educational options for recent high school graduates. To demystify the college admission process, WSU and other participating institutions have committed to admitting all Michigan high school graduates who have earned a cumulative high school GPA of 3.0 or above (on a 4.0 scale).

Wayne State applicants must complete the application for admission (use code WSU2025 to have the fee waived) and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) using WSU’s code, 002329, to qualify. The FAFSA will be available beginning Dec. 1.
