Stuck! Reception, Autumn term, week 11

Last week we met our fictional character Mr Abdullah and we successfully helped him by calling an ambulance. On Tuesday we were called to the rescue again, this time for Mr Abdullah's cat!

We decided it wasn't safe to rescue the cat ourselves so we made an emergency call to the fire service. In our imaginations, we became firefighters and had to solve the problem of how to get the cat down.

Our key story is 'Mog and the V.E.T' by Judith Kerr. Watch here. Next week we will be story-mapping, so the more familiar the children are with the story, the better!

Maths this week has been looking closely at the numbers 4 and 5, thinking about composition, subitizing and being able to say one more or one less. If you'd like to get ahead for next week, we will be studying the difference between squares and rectangles.

Some serious thinking and some sneaky maths learning through play.

Although it's been nippy outside, it's still vitally important to continue developing our physical skills (although the children don't seem to feel the cold as much as we do!).

Fun moving outside.

Mrs Shaw has been busy in our art area focusing on 'process over product', by which I mean helping the children to learn skills such as snipping, mixing, and manipulating materials. This has been hugely popular and a wonderfully creative process to watch.

We are beginning to move into the busy Christmas period. There are many dates you need to be aware of so you can consider work/childcare arrangements. Please see the message on dojo yesterday or the poster on the classroom door for the full list of dates. Thank you!
