Christmas Extravaganzas

Our Christmas Extravaganza performances were a great success and all of the children were fabulous! Thank you to all parents and carers who attended and supported these events. A huge amount of effort goes into these shows and a big thank you goes to Mrs Colquhoun for organising this year.

Rivals Gym Sessions

Lee Houston from Rivals Gym came along to work with all classes in January to celebrate the opening of their 6th training facility in Netherburn. The sessions were enjoyed by the pupils and were a great opportunity for the children to try something new. Thanks to Lee for giving up his time to visit.

Benedetti Foundation

South Lanarkshire Council's Instrumental Music Service manages to secure a 1 week residency from the prestigious Benedetti Foundation in January. As part of this offer, a team of Music Education Specialists attended Newfield and worked with our P4-7 pupils and their teachers to encourage a love and appreciation of music. Thank you to the team for their input.

P7 Burns Supper

Our Primary 7 pupils and Mr Rae put on a fantastic Burns Supper on Thursday 29th January. We were thoroughly entertained with their songs, poems and toasts! Well done to all of Room 8. A huge well done also goes to our younger pupils who recited poems and danced throughout the afternoon. Thank you to parents and carers who worked with the children to learn their poems. Finally, we want to thank our wonderful dinner hall staff, led by Jim McNeillie, for putting on a traditional Burns Supper after three busy lunch services!

Holocaust Memorial Service

Our Newfield Choir were invited to participate in the Holocaust Memorial Service at Larkhall Academy. The children had been working with Caitlin Hollinger, Instrumental Music Teacher, to practise for the service and performed very well on the evening. Thank you to the children who attended and their parents and carers for their support.

We are looking for visitors to come in and talk about their skills - work related or otherwise - and share these with the children. If you would like to visit, we would be delighted to hear from you. Please contact the school and Mrs Colquhoun will get in touch!

Parents' Night - Thursday 26th March

Our Term 3 Parents' Evening is on Thursday 26th March from 3.30pm. Information will be out early March and our booking system will open on Monday 9th March to book appointments. The majority of our appointments are booked on the first day, so we advise parents who require a specific time, or those who require multiple appointments, to book as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. If you are struggling to book your appointments, or if you have any questions, please contact Mrs Montgomery: gw10montgomerymarion@glow.sch.uk. Where possible, children should not attend on Parents' Evening. If you have to bring children along, they should remain in the dinner hall whilst you speak with the teacher/s. Please note that appointments are 7 minutes long, as agreed at Local Authority level. Please try to keep to this time in order that later appointments are not delayed. At Parents' Evening this term, there will be a Scholastic Book Fair available. This will allow parents/carers to purchase a new book for children whilst at Parents' Evening. There is absolutely no obligation to buy. More information to follow.

Growing Into Excellence Jotters

Our Growing Into Excellence jotters will be sent home again on Monday 23rd February. These jotters allow you to get a flavour of what your child is learning in class and the work that they are completing. We would ask that all jotters are commented on by a parent/carer and are returned to school by Friday 27th February.

World Book Day

World Book Day takes place on Thursday 5th March. The theme this year is 'Go All In'. The Reading Schools committee are going to be running a swap shop, there will be our annual competition, BBC Live Lesson, plus a book hunt in the playground. Each class will also work on a book study which relates to our work with Stonehouse Primary on Anti-Racist Education. If you would like to come into school to read to the children on World Book Day, please contact the school and Mrs Montgomery will be in touch. More information on World Book Day to come!

The week beginning 9th March will be our STEM week. The week will be packed with activities relating to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. This annual event is very popular with the pupils and staff alike and we are looking forward to the activities planned. Thanks to Mrs McCafferty for organising this week and supporting the staff throughout the week when it comes. If you have a career in STEM and would like to speak to the children about it, please contact the school and Mrs McCafferty will be in touch!

school improvement priorities progress

Priority One:

To promote the positive health and wellbeing of children and young people, parents/carers and staff with a specific focus on attachment and rights-based learning.

Our progress this term:

We are continuing to gather and submit our evidence for Attachment Informed, Trauma-Sensitive Accreditation. The Pledges we have been successful in achieving are now displayed at the entrance to the school. Thanks to Mrs Johnston and our Attachment Leadership group for all of their hard work with this. All staff are taking part in an Emotion Works session on the February INSET Day. We will be sharing our Rights Respecting Schools work with staff from Stonehouse Primary School as part of our Young Leaders Of Learning work. We are sharing the work we have been doing in Writing with 2 other schools in February as part of our Peer School Review. School leaders and teaching staff from Bankhead Primary and St Hilary's Primary will be visiting to see the work we have done on our Newfield Writing Approach and to find out more about the National Improving Writing project that we are participating in. Our Parent Council are continuing to support the resourcing of our Science programme. We are currently in Year 2 of the 3-year cycle and staff are using a variety of interactive resources, such as TigTag, Twig and Clickview alongside physical resources to engage and motivate learners in Science. Our STEM week takes place later this term, organised by Mrs McCafferty. Our Anti-Racist Position Statement has been created and shared on our website. All classes will be introduced to a text relevant to our work on Anti-Racist Education on World Book Day 2026.

A reminder that if you are having a clear out you can bring your preloved clothes, shoes, handbags and blankets to the school to put in our yellow recycling bin.
