ASSIGNMENTS SJSU FYW Digital Literacy symposium

Assignment #1 Description

The first assignment is simple. You will select a major assignment you already teach in one of your first-year writing classes. We encourage you to select an assignment from a class you're scheduled to teach in the fall.

You will submit the assignment as is. No changes needed!

This assignment is due on Canvas by 11:59pm on Tuesday, 8/6

Assignment #2 Description

Based on the lessons and workshops we do during the Symposium, you will produce a revised assignment.

Your revision should focus specifically on incorporating digital and/or multimodal options for completing the assignment, at least one of which that can be done using Adobe Express.

Your fully revised assignment should, at minimum, define:

  1. The GE Learning Outcomes associated with the assignment
  2. A rationale for what students are doing and how it helps them address the goals of the class (bonus points for articulating transferable skills that they can use in writing tasks beyond your class)
  3. The major elements of the task that students will need to complete (i.e., the various drafts, scaffolded activities, peer reviews, etc.)
  4. Any key logisitical details (i.e., length, modality, citation expectations, etc.)

This assignment is due on Canvas by 11:59pm on Wednesday, 8/7

Assignment #3 Description

You will need to attempt to complete one of your group member's revised assignments. You should use Adobe Express to complete the assignment, though, depending on the assignment, you may have different options for what you produce.

The goal here is *not* to produce a great product, though you're of course invited to shoot for the stars. Rather, the goal is for you to practice someone else's assignment to:

  1. Experience some of the kinds of assignments FYW students are asked to complete
  2. Identify elements in another person's assignment that you might incorporate into your own assignments
  3. identify obstacles, complications, or confusions in the assignment that your colleague might consider revising
  4. Practice with Adobe Express
  5. Have some fun, maybe?

Every person's assignment should be attempted by another person!

This assignment is due on Canvas by 11:59pm on Thursday, 8/8

Assignment #4 Description

You will need to complete the reflective survey for the Symposium at this link.

The survey is anonymous--tell us anything you think we need to know. One you've completed the survey, there will be a concluding message thanking you for your feedback. Highlight and copy that message!

To receive credit for completing the survey, you will need to copy and paste the final message into the "Survey" assignment on Canvas.

This assignment is due on Canvas by 11:59pm on Friday, 8/9

To get paid, you will need to complete all the assignments!
