WELCOME BACK Welcome back to everyone after a well-earned break. I trust that everyone had the opportunity to have some quality family time, and to rest and recharge. Once again, a busy term awaits us with the State Schools Spectacular at the end of Term for our dance ensemble, a school camp for the Grade 6 cohort, the celebration of 100 days of school for our Foundation students, the Foundation to 2 cross country, swimming for the same cohort and plenty of excursions and events including book week. It is a shorter than normal term (nine weeks) so plenty to keep us busy.
THREE WAY CONFERENCES I’m sure the three- way conferences held on Monday were the perfect launch pad for a term of solid learning, with highlights of Semester 1 discussed and future learning outlined. Three-way conferences provide a student voice to discussions about performance and progress, placing the student at the heart of the assessment and reporting process and strengthening the home-school partnership.
BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS UPDATES The ‘surrounds’ of the new Tiger Turf were completed during the break and allow better access and safer play around that area. It is nice to see the fences finally gone after nearly 18 months on site! The Foundation classrooms received a much-needed facelift with the painting of internal walls and the stair well giving a much brighter look and feel – new carpets will follow in the Term 3 break! Along with the usual grounds tidy-up, the maintenance and patching of all Tiger Turf areas and new soft fall for all playgrounds the school is looking in top shape for the start of Term 3.
STATE CROSS COUNTRY Riley Cadusch and Lizzie Rance competed in the State Cross Country at Yarra Valley Racetrack today, and we are so proud of their efforts to get to this elite level!! Hopefully by the time this newsletter goes live, we will be able to update everyone on their placings.
Well, that’s it for me this week. Whilst it still feels like the middle of winter, the days are getting longer and before you know it, we will be getting warmth back in the ground again. Hope everyone has a great weekend.
Kind regards,
Bill Kersing
Welcome back to term 3 and a warm welcome to the new families who are starting at our school. I hope you all found some time to relax and recharge during the break.
It was great to get out and enjoy some lovely walks with my dog, get into the garden, catch up with family and friends and cosy up inside with a good book or two.
Thank you to all the families who came along to school on Monday to share in their child’s learning journey during the 3-Way Conferences. The students were certainly eager to showcase their achievements and share their goals. Thanks to all our staff for ensuring the students were well prepared for these discussions and for meeting with families.
The Smile Squad dental van has returned this week to complete any treatments that were not finalised last term. They will return in approximately 12 months’ time to complete another round of dental examinations.
Just a reminder that our school uniform is now available in store at Lowes in Northland as well as online. Please see the attached flyer for store location and opening hours. The transition so far has been incredibly smooth, and the feedback positive. The convenience of having our school uniform available to purchase seven days a week has been greatly appreciated by the school community.
All pre-paid uniform back orders will continue to be fulfilled and delivered to the school by our previous supplier, AGS. For any enquiries regarding these orders, please contact AGS directly on (03) 9354 8345.
Have a great week.
Gill
Welcome back to what will be a very busy Term 3!
Wet Weather And Dirty Clothes We have now well and truly settled into the winter months, and the recent wet weather has brought plenty of puddles, mud, and slippery surfaces to our school grounds. As a general rule, we do not allow students to roll around in mud, however, if your child is susceptible to being covered in mud, please pack a spare pair of clothes in your child’s school bag.
Having a spare set on hand ensures your child can quickly change and continue their day warm, dry, and happy. It also helps reduce interruptions to learning and avoids the need for a phone call home.
NAPLAN (National Assessment program – Literacy And Numeracy) The 2025 NAPLAN results for our Year 3 and Year 5 students are expected to be sent home tomorrow, Friday 25 July. These will be in large envelopes, please check your child’s bag for these.
There is always a lot of media scrutiny into NAPLAN results, as well as parent discussion about individual results. It is important that we keep in mind that every student’s learning journey is different, and that the context of having one test on one day is kept in perspective of 13 years of schooling from Foundation to Year 12. We know that some students performed better than expected, and some did not. Your most important resource for understanding your child’s ongoing learning over time are your child’s teachers.
Here is a useful 3-minute video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AcYsiLtE7a8 which explains how to read your child’s NAPLAN Report.
Select this link Individual student report – brochure for parents/carers (PDF 294 KB) to view the information brochure in English. The brochure is also available in the following languages at this website (scroll half-way down the page): https://nap.edu.au/naplan/results-and-reports

Have a great weekend,
